Location: S+J Creative Studio, Royston, Hertfordshire
Reports to: Head of Design/Creative Director
Type: Full-time, Permanent
About Us
We're a creative agency based in Hertfordshire, helping ambitious businesses build brands people remember. We work across branding, websites, campaigns, editorial, digital, exhibitions, social content and everything in between. No two weeks are ever the same, and that's exactly how we like it.
We're looking for a talented Junior / Midweight Designer to join our growing team and work closely alongside our Head of Design/Creative Director. This isn't a role where you'll be left producing artwork all day. You'll be involved in the creative process from the beginning, helping turn ideas into beautifully crafted design across multiple touchpoints.
The Role
You'll help bring creative concepts to life.
Working alongside the Head of Design/Creative Director, you'll take strategic ideas and develop them into cohesive, considered design across print, digital and brand. One day you might be refining a visual identity, the next designing a website, laying out a magazine or creating campaign assets.
We're looking for someone who loves solving creative problems, sweats the details and enjoys making great ideas even better.
Key Responsibilities
Creative & Design
- Develop creative concepts into polished, high-quality design.
- Roll out brand identities across multiple channels and touchpoints.
- Design for print, digital and web.
- Create editorial layouts, presentations, marketing materials and campaigns.
- Develop creative assets for social media, digital marketing and other communications.
- Work across a variety of client sectors, adapting your approach to different audiences and brand requirements.
- Take projects from initial concepts through to final artwork and delivery.
- Ensure all work is produced to a consistently high creative and technical standard.
Collaboration & Client Projects
- Work closely with the Head of Design / Creative Director and wider team across client projects.
- Contribute ideas and creative thinking during brainstorms, internal reviews and project development.
- Help translate strategic and creative direction into effective visual solutions.
- Present and explain design ideas and the thinking behind your work when required.
- Take ownership of your projects while being open to feedback and continual improvement.
- Work collaboratively with project and digital teams to ensure creative work is delivered effectively across different platforms.
Brand & Creative Standards
- Help maintain and develop brand identities across a range of applications.
- Ensure consistency, accuracy and attention to detail across all creative output.
- Follow brand guidelines while also knowing when and how to push creative ideas further.
- Help maintain the high creative standards Sanders and Jay is known for.
- Stay curious about design, culture, technology and emerging creative trends.
About You
You are:
- Creative, curious and genuinely excited by design.
- A strong visual thinker who enjoys solving creative problems.
- Highly detail-focused with a good eye for typography, layout, composition and craft.
- Comfortable developing ideas as well as executing them.
- Able to take direction while also bringing your own ideas and perspective.
- Confident asking questions, challenging ideas constructively and contributing to creative discussions.
- Organised and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Comfortable receiving feedback and using it to improve your work.
- Someone who cares about the quality of what they produce and takes pride in the finished result.
You’ll ideally have:
- Around 2–5 years' experience in a creative agency or established freelance environment.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Graphic Design or a related creative discipline.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating both creative thinking and excellent design craft.
- Experience across branding, graphic design, editorial and digital design.
- An understanding of designing for websites and digital platforms.
- Excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
- Experience with Adobe XD or other digital design/prototyping tools.
- A strong understanding of typography, layout, hierarchy and visual communication.
- The confidence to present ideas and explain your design thinking.
- Motion, animation or video skills would be a bonus, but are not essential.
More Than Anything...
We're looking for someone who's genuinely excited by design.
Someone who's curious, asks questions, spots opportunities and wants to keep learning. Someone who enjoys discussing ideas as much as creating them.
You don't need to be the finished article, we'll help you grow, but you do need to care about the work, have high standards and be proud of what you create.
If you're the sort of designer who saves inspiring work, notices the kerning on a menu, gets excited by a brilliant brand identity or spends far too long perfecting the details because you know it matters, we'll probably get on.
Progression & Growth
We're a growing agency, and we're committed to helping our team develop.
You'll work closely with experienced creatives and have the opportunity to build your skills across branding, digital, web, editorial, campaigns and creative direction.
As your experience grows, there will be opportunities to take on greater responsibility, lead projects and develop your career within the creative team.
Why Sanders & Jay?
We're a small team, which means your work has real impact.
You'll have the opportunity to work on a huge variety of projects for clients across different sectors, learn directly from experienced creatives, and play a genuine role in shaping the work we produce.
We believe the best ideas come from collaboration, curiosity and having the freedom to explore.
If that sounds like your kind of place, we'd love to hear from you.
