The Opportunity
This is more than a maintenance management role.
As Engineering Manager, you will lead the site engineering strategy, ensuring our production facilities, equipment and infrastructure operate safely, efficiently and reliably. You will be responsible for driving engineering excellence, developing a high-performing team, improving equipment reliability and delivering capital projects that support business growth.
You will be a key member of the operational leadership team, working closely with Production, Technical, Hygiene, NPD and Supply Chain to deliver world-class manufacturing performance.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
- Lead, develop and inspire the Engineering Team.
- Set clear standards, objectives and expectations.
- Create a culture of accountability, ownership and continuous improvement.
- Develop succession plans and engineering capability across the team.
- Manage recruitment, training and performance of engineering colleagues.
Asset Reliability & Maintenance
- Own the site Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained to maximise uptime and reliability.
- Reduce unplanned downtime through root cause analysis and preventative actions.
- Drive improvements in Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Monitor and report engineering performance against agreed KPIs.
Food Manufacturing Excellence
- Ensure engineering activities fully support food safety, product quality and customer requirements.
- Maintain compliance with BRCGS, health & safety and environmental standards.
- Support factory audits and customer visits.
- Ensure engineering standards reflect best practice within a high-care food manufacturing environment.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead engineering improvement projects across the site.
- Identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and waste reduction.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Deliver sustainable cost savings without compromising safety, quality or reliability.
Capital Projects & Investment
- Manage engineering projects from concept through to implementation.
- Develop business cases for equipment and infrastructure investment.
- Manage contractors and external suppliers.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
Budget & Cost Control
- Manage the engineering budget.
- Control maintenance expenditure and engineering stock.
- Monitor energy usage and identify cost reduction opportunities.
- Deliver value for money through effective supplier management.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Champion a proactive safety culture.
- Ensure compliance with all statutory engineering inspections.
- Manage permits to work and contractor control.
- Ensure machinery remains legally compliant and fit for purpose.
- Promote safe systems of work across the engineering function.
Operational Partnership
- Work closely with Production Managers to support daily operational requirements.
- Participate in site leadership meetings.
- Provide engineering expertise for operational decisions and business planning.
- Act as a trusted advisor to the Leadership Team on engineering matters.

About You
Essential
- Engineering leadership experience within food manufacturing, FMCG or a similar fast-paced production environment.
- HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent engineering qualification.
- Strong mechanical and electrical engineering knowledge.
- Proven experience managing engineering teams.
- Experience leading PPM programmes and reliability improvements.
- Strong project management skills.
- Excellent people leadership and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of health and safety legislation.
Desirable
- Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
- IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
- Experience operating within a BRCGS-accredited food manufacturing environment.
- Project management qualification.

Pay: £70,000.00-£80,000.00 per year
