Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Practice Bookkeeper & Payroll Assistant to join our team. This role is integral to maintaining accurate financial records, managing payroll processes, and supporting the overall financial health of our practice. The ideal candidate will possess strong organisational skills, experience with various accounting software, and a proactive approach to financial administration. Responsibilities
· Maintain accurate bookkeeping records for a portfolio of clients using Xero.
· Process sales and purchase invoices, receipts, and payments.
· Perform regular bank and credit card reconciliations.
· Prepare and submit VAT returns in accordance with HMRC requirements.
· Assist with the preparation of management information and financial reports.
· Process weekly and monthly payrolls for multiple clients.
· Manage pension submissions and auto-enrolment duties.
· Ensure payroll compliance with HMRC regulations, including RTI submissions.
· Liaise with clients to obtain financial information and resolve queries.
· Reconcile supplier statements and assist with supplier payments.
· Support clients with expense processing and credit card reconciliations.
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date records while meeting strict deadlines.
· Provide excellent customer service and build strong client relationships.
The Successful Applicant
· Previous bookkeeping and payroll experience is essential.
· Experience using Xero software is essential.
· Proven ability to manage a portfolio of multiple clients with varying requirements.
· Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles, VAT, and payroll processes.
· Experience with HMRC payroll submissions, pension schemes, and auto-enrolment.
· Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
· Strong organisational and time management skills.
· Ability to prioritise workload and meet multiple deadlines.
· Confident communicator with the ability to build positive client relationships.
· Proactive, flexible, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
· AAT qualification or working towards AAT would be advantageous but is not essential.
