Role Purpose
The Head of IT leads the organisation's technology function, ensuring systems, infrastructure, and applications are reliable, secure, and aligned with operational needs. Reporting directly to the Operations Director, the post-holder is the most senior technology voice in the business and is responsible for the team, the platforms, the vendor relationships, and the IT strategy.
This is a hands-on leadership role in a small, multi-disciplinary IT team. The right person will be as comfortable discussing infrastructure architecture as they are supporting colleagues and managing supplier contracts.
Skills and Experience
We are looking for candidates with
- Proven experience leading an IT function or team, including line management responsibility.
- Strong hands-on technical background across infrastructure, networking, and business applications.
- Experience managing vendors, contracts, and IT procurement.
- Solid understanding of information security principles and UK GDPR compliance.
- Excellent communication skills — able to translate technical topics for non-technical stakeholders.
- Track record of delivering IT projects on time and within budget.
- Organised and methodical, with a clear approach to documentation and risk management
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- Familiarity with ITIL or similar service management frameworks.
- Experience in an operations-led or professional services environment.
- Relevant professional qualification (e.g. CISSP, ITIL, Microsoft, AWS certifications).
- Experience implementing or managing Cyber Essentials / Cyber Essentials Plus.
