We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented, and organised Accounts & Bookkeeper to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing day-to-day accounting transactions, and supporting the smooth running of the finance function. Previous experience in a legal environment is desirable but not essential, as candidates with strong bookkeeping and accounting experience from other industries are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain accurate financial records and accounting systems.
Process purchase invoices, sales invoices, receipts, and payments.
Perform daily bank reconciliations and reconcile client/supplier accounts.
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
Prepare payment runs and process electronic payments.
Monitor cash flow and maintain accurate cash records.
Assist with month-end and year-end accounting procedures.
Process journals, accruals, and prepayments where required.
Prepare VAT returns and assist with statutory reporting.
Maintain payroll records and liaise with payroll providers where applicable.
Reconcile control accounts, including bank, VAT, and supplier/customer ledgers.
Prepare financial reports and management information for senior management.
Maintain accurate filing and accounting documentation.
Assist external accountants and auditors by providing supporting information.
Ensure compliance with company financial policies and relevant accounting regulations.
Support the wider administration team with finance-related tasks.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
Skills & Experience
Essential
Previous experience in bookkeeping, accounts, finance, or legal cashiering.
Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping.
Experience with accounting software such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, LEAP, or similar.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong organisational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication skills.
Desirable
Experience working in a solicitor's practice or professional services environment.
Knowledge of VAT procedures.
Experience with client account reconciliations.
AAT qualification or equivalent accounting qualification (or working towards one).
