Full job description

Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and reliable HGV / Machinery Mechanic to join our maintenance team at a busy recycling yard. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting a wide range of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and industrial plant machinery to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient site operations.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong mechanical knowledge, welding capability, and experience working with heavy equipment in demanding environments.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and preventative maintenance on HGVs and plant machinery.
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic faults efficiently.
Repair and maintain recycling plant equipment, including conveyors, excavators, loading shovels etc
Perform HGV and plant repairs in line with safety and compliance standards.
Undertake fabrication and welding repairs (MIG/Stick welding required).
Respond promptly to breakdowns to minimise operational downtime.
Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete job sheets.
Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with company health & safety policies.
Assist in maintaining workshop tools, equipment, and parts inventory.

Essential Requirements

Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic, Plant Mechanic, or similar role.
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and heavy plant systems.
Welding and fabrication skills (MIG/Arc essential).
Experience working on HGVs and industrial plant machinery.
Ability to troubleshoot and work independently.
Good understanding of health & safety procedures.
Full UK Driving Licence (HGV licence desirable but not essential).
