Imperial College London is seeking two Senior Project Managers to support the successful delivery of capital projects across our campuses, helping to create high-quality spaces that support research, education and collaboration.
Working within the Property Division’s Capital Projects Delivery Team, you will play a key role in delivering complex construction and refurbishment projects across all our campuses, typically projects over £1m or those with significant technical, procurement, planning and logistical requirements. You will support the Director of Project Delivery by leading projects directly, overseeing delivery by internal teams and external consultants, and promoting consistent project management standards across the Property Division.
In this role, you will lead the development and delivery of project briefs, specifications and capital projects from feasibility through to completion and handover. You will manage project risks, budgets, programmes, procurement and contract management, quality and change control, ensuring projects are delivered in line with Imperial procedures, statutory requirements, health and safety standards, environmental expectations and agreed capital budgets.
You will work closely with internal stakeholders, consultants, contractors, statutory bodies and Property Division colleagues to ensure operational requirements are understood and disruption is minimised. You will also support project reporting, governance and lessons learned, while managing and developing Project Managers to promote consistent standards, strong delivery performance and continuous improvement across the Capital Projects Delivery Team.
- A recognised project management and/or programme management qualification
- A degree or relevant professional qualification related to the work of the role
- Significant experience leading high-quality construction projects and delivering value for money
- Experience preparing and controlling project budgets, including financial reporting, cashflow, valuations and payments
- Significant experience working with consultants, contractors and professional project teams
- Experience leading project design, implementation, change management and handover from brief to occupation
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, particularly JCT and NEC forms
- Good understanding of construction law, procurement procedures, statutory requirements, health and safety legislation and the Building Safety Act
- Experience developing briefs, specifications, options appraisals and business cases with users and stakeholders
- Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- The ability to manage competing priorities, work to tight programmes and resolve issues pragmatically
- Experience managing, mentoring or supporting project teams to deliver successful outcomes
