Clinical Specialist Sonographer: Liver & Gastrointestinal (GI) – Band 7-8a Annex U
A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for an already experienced sonographer to apply for a 12-month Annex U development post to become a Clinical Specialist Sonographer. Due to the nature of this role, the successful will have to be a state registered (e.g. HCPC-registered radiographer).
The successful post holder will be required to work across the UHLG sites. The post will include an 80/20 role split of clinical/non-clinical workload. The clinical specialist sonographer role will work closely with the Consultant Radiographer/Sonographer Clinical Lead.
To meet the requirements of a clinical specialist sonographer, and in line with the advanced clinical practitioner framework, the successful candidate will be expected to complete an MSc, which will be funded by the department. Further milestones and key tasks will need to be achieved for the role as part of the development role to ensure the full specification of the role is met prior to moving into the 8a pay scale.
This new role will also involve developing skills in endoanal ultrasound and training in contrast enhanced ultrasound of the liver will also be undertaken.
The successful candidate will need to be able to commit to a minimum of 30 hours in the role. Non-specialist GI ultrasound work will remain an essential component of the clinical workload of this post.
To meet the requirements of a clinical specialist sonographer and in line with the advanced clinical practitioner framework, the successful candidate will be required to:
Complete a Masters in Science (MSc) award, which will be funded by the department.
Learn how to undertake transrectal/endoanal ultrasound.
Learn how to undertake contrast enhanced-liver ultrasound imaging.
Develop standard operating procedure (SOP) for clinical specialist role in conjunction with Consultant Radiographer/Sonographer.
Act as sonographer lead in the Trust's HCC surveillance programme, under the supervision of the Consultant Radiographer/Sonographer and Medical Lead in Ultrasound.
Complete reflective piece on the role of ultrasound in contrast enhanced US in liver imaging.
Undertake one clinical audit per year.
Attend and participate within MDT specific to the role.
Demonstrate ability to work to specific deadlines.
Review and update of role-specific clinical protocols in conjunction with the Consultant Radiographer/Sonographer.

Act as senior clinical member of the ultrasound team.
Support the Consultant Radiographer/Sonographer in HCC surveillance service.
Undertake appropriate specialist scans (CEUS and endoanal US)
Continue to undertake non-specialist work within scope of practice.
Formal interview with presentation will be required for all successfully shortlisted candidates.
