What you’ll be doing:
The Financial Controller is responsible for managing all aspects of the company’s financial accounting, transaction processing, statutory reporting, tax compliance, and treasury management. The role ensures that the finance function operates efficiently, accurately, and in full compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements. This position works closely with the CEO and Finance Business Partner, with primary accountability for the integrity of financial records, robust financial controls, and the timely delivery of statutory and management reporting.
Key responsibilities:
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of the general ledger, including all reconciliations.
- Maintain the integrity of the chart of accounts and accounting systems.
- Lead the statutory accounts preparation process, including liaison with external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with UK GAAP and relevant statutory accounting requirements.
Transaction Processing & Controls
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and banking processes.
- Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of sales and receipts across all marketplace channels and the company’s own website.
- Maintain robust accounting for inventory, manufacturing costs, and cost of sales.
- Design, implement, and monitor financial controls, policies, and procedures.
Treasury & Cash Management
- Manage daily cash flow requirements and forecasting.
- Oversee bank reconciliations and ensure accurate management of payments and receipts.
- Monitor marketplace settlements, foreign currency transactions, and cross border transfers.
- Maintain effective relationships with banks and payment service providers.
Taxation & Compliance
- Manage all aspects of UK and EU VAT compliance, including OSS/IOSS reporting.
- Oversee corporation tax, PAYE, and other statutory filings.
- Liaise with external tax advisors to ensure compliance with international trade and tax requirements.
Team Leadership & Development
- Manage, support, and develop members of the finance operations team.
- Ensure effective workload distribution across transactional finance functions.
- Promote a culture of accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
- Drive efficiency and automation in financial processes where appropriate.

What we are looking for:
Education and Qualifications:
- Fully / Part qualified CIMA
Requirements:
- Qualified accountant or equivalent
- Significant experience in financial accounting, statutory reporting, and tax compliance.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP (IFRS knowledge desirable).
- Experience in transaction-heavy, multi-channel e-commerce or retail environments.
- Proven ability to manage high-volume reconciliations and complex accounting processes.
- Knowledge of EU VAT and cross-border trade compliance.
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems and integrated marketplace platforms.
