AtkinsRéalis is seeking a motivated and ambitious Assistant Building Surveyor to join our growing Exeter Building Surveying team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience across a diverse range of sectors while developing the technical and professional skills required to achieve Chartered status with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
Working alongside experienced surveyors and project managers, you will contribute to a wide variety of projects, benefit from structured mentoring, and gain exposure to innovative surveying techniques and technologies.
As an Assistant Building Surveyor, you will support the delivery of project and professional services across a diverse portfolio of clients and building sectors, including education, healthcare, commercial, defence, residential, public-sector estates, and financial and banking environments.
You will work closely with senior colleagues on both national and regional commissions, gaining valuable experience in traditional building surveying disciplines while building your APC competency portfolio.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting condition survey programmes and asset inspections.
Undertaking building inspections and collecting data using digital survey tools.
Assisting with defect diagnosis and technical investigations.
Supporting project management and contract administration commissions.
Assisting with measured surveys and building recording.
Contributing to Party Wall and dilapidations instructions.
Preparing reports, schedules and survey documentation.
Validating and managing survey data.
Supporting senior colleagues with project administration and client deliverables.
Working collaboratively with teams across our UK office network.
We're looking for an enthusiastic individual who is eager to learn, develop and build a long-term career within Building Surveying.

Completed or currently studying a degree in Building Surveying or another RICS-accredited discipline.
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Good numeracy and analytical capability.
Excellent IT and digital literacy skills.
Full UK driving licence.
Willingness to travel throughout the UK when required. Flexibility to work away from home where project commitments necessitate.
A conscientious and professional approach to work. Eligibility to obtain a satisfactory DBS check.
Basic experience using AutoCAD, together with an understanding of building surveying and construction principles, would be advantageous.
Previous customer-facing experience with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills is desirable.
Awareness of commercial drivers, business development activities, and how they contribute to project and business success would be beneficial.
