- Hours: Monday – Friday, 05:30 – 15:30 (start time non-negotiable)
- Pay Rate:£15.64 per hour
- Overtime Rate: £21.75 per hour
- Weekly Pay: £742.90 based on 47.5 hours
- Holiday: 28 days annual leave including Bank Holidays
Essential Requirements
- Full HGV Class 2 (LGV Category C) licence with a maximum of 6 points
- Valid Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card
- Must be physically fit — this is a demanding, hands-on role involving frequent manual handling and walking
- Confident working independently on a single-handed commercial collection route
- Strong low-speed manoeuvring skills and experience navigating tight access areas and narrow roads
- Comfortable using tablet devices and digital applications
- Clear spoken and written English essential
- Reliable, professional, and safety-focused attitude
About the Role
Bolton Brothers Ltd is a respected family-run recycling and waste management company seeking a dependable LGV Class 2 Refuse Driver to join our commercial collections team.
You will complete commercial waste and recycling collections across Ipswich, Felixstowe, Woodbridge, Bury St Edmunds, Colchester, and surrounding villages. Customers include bakeries, industrial units, retail outlets, food producers, and business parks.
This is a single-handed role with no loading assistant, meaning you will independently manage your route, collections, and vehicle operations throughout the day.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate an LGV Class 2 refuse collection vehicle safely and efficiently
- Complete commercial waste and recycling collections independently
- Collect, manoeuvre, and empty wheelie bins of various sizes following safe handling procedures
- Navigate restricted access sites, narrow roads, and tight turning areas safely
- Carry out daily vehicle safety inspections and defect reporting
- Use a tablet device to record collection information and route data
- Accurately record missed collections, contamination issues, and non-compliance reports using company software
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards within the vehicle
- Communicate professionally with customers and internal teams
- Report delays, incidents, defects, or operational concerns promptly to the Transport Manager
What We’re Looking For
Successful applicants will have:
- Previous HGV Class 2 driving experience
- Excellent spatial awareness and vehicle control skills
- Confidence working alone and managing workload independently
- A strong work ethic and reliable attendance record
- Good awareness of health and safety procedures
- Basic IT confidence using tablets and digital systems
- Experience within the waste or recycling industry is beneficial but not essential, as full training will be provided
- Experience using Microsoft Teams is advantageous but training can be provided
