Full job description

Seasonal Plant Area Assistant – Perrywood Tiptree

Fixed-term contract until December 2026

Working 4 days during the week (including bank holidays) and an alternate weekend day

8.30 am to 5 pm

Hourly rate: £10.85-£12.71 per hour

You will be working in our plant areas. Assisting the team in stocking up, moving and maintaining plants and moving trolleys, helping with basic customer queries.

We are looking for motivated individuals who can follow instructions and communicate with customers. You will support our mission to offer a memorable garden centre experience, deliver wow customer service, and give employees, customers, suppliers, and the community a reason to smile.

Rewards and Benefits - In addition to your hourly rate, you will receive the following benefits:

Discount – From the start of your employment you will receive 10% discount on specific items. Following a successful probation period, the discount increases up to 20% discount on specific items and after one year’s service up to 40% discount on specific items. (some exceptions apply)

Key duties

Moving trolleys and stock from the greenhouses and stocking up plant displays
Transferring and maintaining plants and moving promotional materials and displays
Maintaining the cleanliness of the garden centre and stock areas, carrying out cleaning duties and minor maintenance works
Support the current team with maintenance and stocking up of the plant areas

Your capabilities

Good verbal communication and customer service skills, confidence in dealing with members of the public
Able to follow instructions from your supervisors and work on your own initiative
Able to lift, bend, carry or move plants and products
You can push/pull several trollies across a site throughout the day and in all weathers

Requirements

You’ll need to work four weekdays and one alternating day each weekend – Saturday one weekend, Sunday the next.
As part of this role, you will be required to wear gloves (Personal Protective Equipment, or PPE) when handling certain crops, which may be for large parts of the day
