Full job description

Deputy Practitioner / Manager
To assist the Lead Practitioner/ Playgroup manager in leading the team to deliver a quality pre-school experience in line with Health and Social Care standards.
In particular this will be split into three roles:
1. Playgroup Practitioner 2. Deputy manager 3. Administrative work

1. Playgroup Practitioner
To act as key worker to a group of children liaising closely with parents/carer and ensuring each child needs are recognised and met until the child is settled and integrated.
This includes regular observations to assess progress, identify when and where support is required and show development completing learning records.
Help assess and develop non key children’s learning and development and contribute to the writing of individual learning records.
Ensure children are treated individually, with sensitivity and respect ·
To provide children choice in their daily activities whilst in playgroup.
To work as a team member under the direction of the Practice Manager to provide a safe, high quality environment for the care and well being of children (on average 25 children per session aged from 2 -5 years)

2. Deputy Manager
Support the Lead Practitioner in leading the daily running of the playgroup activities. (20 p/w) ·
To complete out-of-setting administrative work in-order to support the Lead Practitioner.
This will involve both paper and computer based work (5 hrs p/w). ·
Under the guidance of the line manager, to lead the keyworkers in their role ensuring planning meets relevant curriculum and reflects the children’s interests.
Take on responsibility for the running of the playgroup on days the manager is not within the setting.
To work with others in order to set up the playgroup at the beginning of the session and ensure that all activities are tidied away at the end.

To advise the Practice Manager of any concerns e.g. over children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary ·
Contribute to Risk Assessment of new programme activities ·
Help assess and develop children’s learning and development and contribute to the writing of individual learning records.
Have an awareness of cultural, social and religious diversity ·
Have positive and constructive interaction with parents, including assisting in meeting and greeting parents and provide feedback to them at the end of each session and at other times as appropriate.
To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is learned as part of the job

3. Admin
To attend and assist in leading staff meetings and planning sessions as arranged ·
To be familiar with the playgroup policies and work with them.
Assisting in the development of these when necessary.
To attend in-service training courses and committee meetings as required.
Any other duties as reasonably requested

The Practitioner is expected to: · Adhere to Cramond Playgroup policies ·
Work to Health and Social Care Standards and use Scottish Government national guidelines to plan and provide for children’s care, learning and development;
Register with the Scottish Social Services Council and adhere to the Code of Practice for Social Services Workers and the Care Inspectorate.
Abide by the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme

Session working hours are Mon – Fri 8.30am to 12.30, days worked weekly (totalling 20 hours). Administrative work totalling 5 hours per week.

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

· Sensitivity and respect for children

· Enthusiasm

· An understanding of child development and early years learning

· Positive and respectful communication with parents and carers

· Good administrative / computer skills

· Confidence to lead and guide staff

· Good interpersonal and team skills

· A willingness to undertake training and professional development as required

Cramond Playgroup is a parent-led community playgroup established in 1967, dedicated to providing high quality, fun and accessible care for children aged between 2 and 5. We are a registered charity.
We are open during school term time from 9am – 12 noon, Monday – Friday. Sessions are run at Cramond Kirk Halls.
Cramond Playgroup is managed by a voluntary committee. The Committee is made up of Playgroup members who are elected at the AGM. The committee are responsible for the running of the Playgroup, the accounts and organising fundraising events.

Pay: £14.00 per hour
