Full job description

The Service & Team:

The Statutory SEN Service sits within the Inclusion and SEND Service which provides a wide range of support to families in Cornwall.

SEND Assessment Coordinators are key members of Cornwall’s Statutory SEN Service. This team of people coordinate key processes around the assessment of children and young people's complex special educational needs. This includes working with education, health and care colleagues as part of Cornwall Council's SEND and Inclusion Team. There are over 5000 children and young people from 0-25 years of age in Cornwall who have EHC plans.

The Role:

SEND Assessment Coordinators are responsible for processing the requests for Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments made by families and professionals, in line with the SEND Code of Practice. This involves:

Receiving and logging assessment requests.

Preparing information for the SEN Panel.
Attending the SEN panel to provide support to the panel members.
Communicating decisions to parents, schools and other professionals.
Liaising with multi-agency professionals to gather reports and information about children and young people to inform the EHC needs assessment.
Coordinating and driving timely assessments in line with the 20 week statutory time frame for completion.

This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.

This position will be subject to a enhanced criminal record disclosure check.

Working Pattern:

We currently have two fixed term, full time positions available within our team.

This is a full time hybrid role which involves a combination of working at New County Hall in Truro, and if you choose, some home working. The working hours are between 8.45 and 17.15, Monday to Friday.
