Full job description

Job Purpose/Overview:

The role is to:

Be lead on our group mentoring programmes running Thrive - for those struggling with anxiety and our Aspire programme for those on the edge of school exclusion. Delivering one to one mentoring at the local school or on site, or other group mentoring programmes as required. Building relationships to encourage young people into the Hub provision.
Be involved in our After School and Hub provision running an exciting programme of activities after school, and potentially in the evenings, during the holidays and on special occasions (ie town festivals).
Working on our Young Carers programme providing a wide range of provision to support young people looking after a member of the family who is long-term ill/sick.
Covering when required on our Supersonic group which is a youth club for those with additional needs, usually autism.
Leading on our Journey programme, being responsive to those who would like to ask ‘big’ questions or attend Alpha. Connecting with local church youth groups.
Managing volunteers, interns and junior volunteers as required. Being the consistent face of KA and connecting young people and teams together to build lasting, supportive relationships.

SPECIAL FEATURES

This post requires an enhanced DBS and has a genuine occupational requirement for both a Female worker, and a practicing Christian under section 9 of the Equality Act.

NOTES

You will work mostly from our Alton Centre. There is a requirement to work at other locations when required and one day/week at our Petersfield centre.
We would consider part-time application for 30+ hours or a job share.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning and Delivering youth work

To plan and deliver a varied programme of activities that meets the needs of the young people based on the desired outcomes and objectives of the projects and in line with our 3 Crowns.
To encourage participation of young people to ensure their ideas contribute fully in the planning and delivery of sessions, and activities.
To meet project targets and objectives as identified in bids/grant applications, action plans, funders requirements, and the Kings Arms strategic plan.
To mentor young people either one-to-one or in group situations as and when required, according to our mentoring policy, including preparation of activities for mentoring sessions.
To attend/support/lead weekly project meetings as agreed with the centre manager.

Reporting and Finance

To monitor, measure and provide statistics, assessments and evaluation in a timely manner as required by stakeholders, funders, and returns.
To ensure that financial procedures are followed.
To work with the CEO/ Centre Manager to identify and secure new income streams.

Administration and Compliance

To work with young people to ensure effective communication supports the programmes.
To maintain good housekeeping, to ensure the centre is tidy and clean after sessions, and that equipment/resources are properly maintained.
To manage all paperwork and the database in relation to projects including consent forms.
To ensure that policies and procedures are adhered to.

Team Work

To induct, encourage, motivate, train and support volunteers and junior volunteers.
To work effectively, courteously and respectfully within the team and foster a positive work culture which reflects the ethos of the charity and provides an outstanding role model for young people.
To attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings.

Stakeholder Management

To foster appropriate relationships that will enhance the delivery of the project.
To attend when necessary meetings either related to individuals or to the project and to contribute and feedback as useful, representing the Kings Arms at all times.

Marketing

To raise awareness of the Kings Arms among young people and the wider community and promote and seek to integrate the charity within the local community including recruiting volunteers.
To assist with fund-raising and promotional events.
To contribute to our presence on our website and social networking.

General

To undertake other duties consistent with the objectives and/or duties of the post or as reasonably requested by the Centre Manager or CEO.

Person Spec Requirements Someone who:

Has a JNC professional qualification in youth work or equivalent or someone with at least 2 years youth work experience, strong track record and a passion for supporting young people will also be considered.
Is able to demonstrate an understanding of current youth culture, including young people’s development needs and issues facing them.
Is skilled in managing group behaviour, creative in inspiring involvement and belonging, and committed to a building long term relationships with young people.
Is engaging, friendly, enthusiastic but also has strong listening and questioning skills.
Is a team player, with the ability to lead, encourage and work collaboratively with other staff, volunteers, junior volunteers, and interns.
Is skilful at creating programmes and always has a game up their sleeve.
Is able to manage time efficiently, prioritise tasks whilst ensuring punctuality and reliability at all times, has an ability to plan ahead and communicate plans well with others.
Has a working knowledge of compliance requirements in relation to working with young people including Safeguarding, H&S, GDPR, Equality and Diversity, confidentiality.
Has experience and skills with IT (word, excel, PowerPoint, databases, social media, zoom).
Has empathy with, and commitment to, the ethos and objectives of the King’s Arms Youth charity including KA values.
A full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
