We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Dietitian to join the Nutrition and Dietetics Team at Northumbria NHS Foundation Trust. Our service is part of one of the largest trusts in the UK and the dietetic team are well valued within the organisation.
We are looking for an experienced Band 5 Dietitian ready for the next step, or a current Band 6 Dietitian interested in working in a dynamic, acute adult service. The role is diverse, working across a variety of clinical specialisms, including gastroenterology, oral and enteral nutritional support. There will be an expectation to work across both inpatient and community settings trust-wide.
You will join the friendly team of Dietitians, Dietetic Assistant Practitioners and Dietetic Assistants at an outstanding Trust. The post is based at North Tyneside Hospital but will be required to work-trust wide to meet the demands of the service.
We are a very supportive department and will provide you with all the relevant training and support required. CPD is important to us, and we encourage participation in both in-house and external training/education.
Specifically, the post requires the successful applicant to:
- Work across both inpatient and outpatient settings, there may be a requirement to carry out home visits if needed.
- Manage a specialist caseload, including patients with gastroenterology needs, and nutrition support in both oral and enteral nutrition.
- Lead on and develop a specific area of the adult dietetic service.
- Contribute to and lead on the development of standards, policies and clinical guidelines.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external partners to support holistic patient care.
- To educate, support and act as a role model to colleagues and students. Contributing to training, meetings and other means of group supervision.
You will be an active member of the team and play a vital role in patient service delivery, education and resource development. Our service is made up of 3 teams; adults (acute/community), diabetes, and paediatrics. We are a large department of nearly 60 staff, based across Wansbeck and North Tyneside General Hospitals and Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care hospital.
We take A, B and C placements from nearby universities. All staff are encouraged to take part in student training – support will be provided for the successful applicant.
We manage four major locality hospitals: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital; North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham General Hospitals; and a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, covering one of the largest geographical areas of any NHS trust in the country.
Leading in innovation and quality. Do you want to work in one of the best performing NHS organisations in England? Work in an organisation that supports its staff and focuses on staff experience as much as it does the experience of its patients? You can live and breathe in an area that has the cleanest air, cost effective living, great nightlife, some of the best schools with a wealth of history available on your doorstep. Sound too good to be true? Well it isn’t, this is what you get when you work for Northumbria Healthcare, this is the Northumbria Way! Please read ‘applicant guidance notes’ before submitting your application.
Your varied and complex caseload will include patients across both inpatients and outpatients with a variety of presentations. You will have your own caseload as well as the expectation to provide support to other parts of the service as needed.
This includes, but not limited to, patients with gastroenterology presentations, eating disorders, mental health conditions and other complex presentations, both on oral and enteral nutritional support. There is a requirement to take lead on a specific area and develop the care pathways to provide efficient and effective service to that patient group.
The role involves collaborative working both within and beyond dietetics, including engagement with key stakeholders such as safeguarding teams, mental health clinical leads, gastroenterology services, GPs, community nurses and other teams across the trust and in community.
The successful candidate will be a confident autonomous practitioner with a strong commitment to high-quality, evidence-based practice and continuous service improvement. A focus on measuring outcomes of dietetic intervention is strongly encouraged, and contributing to the development of pathways and resources.
You will supervise and support colleagues on both an ad hoc basis and within an appraisal and clinical supervision framework. This will include appraisal and one-to-ones, clinical and peer supervision.
