Durham Tees Valley Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services meet the mental and behaviour needs of children and young people up to the age of 18 years.
The service is split into:
- Getting Help
- Getting More Help, LD CAMHS and Neurodevelopmental assessment teams,
- Specialist services (Eating Disorders and Forensic CAMHS).
In Durham Tees Valley services are operationally and clinically led through a collective leadership model.
The services are commissioned based on the NENC (North East and North Cumbria) ICB (Integrated Care Board) footprint.
Specialist services (Eating Disorders and Forensic CAMHS) are nationally commissioned.
The North Durham CAMH service is a community, out-patient specialist Getting More Help CAMHS team, supported by a Getting Help Service which works into schools and with young people with mild/moderate mental health difficulties. It serves the Durham City, Consett and Chester-le-Street populations (180,000 all ages population with approximately 25% being under 18 years).
Children and Young people in the area are supported by a range of internal and external getting advice, getting help and getting risk support mental health services. In addition, there are a range of local authority education and social care support services.
The team support young people and families affected by moderate to severe mental health needs and may also include supporting behavioural and sleep management.
The post holder will support the consultant psychiatrist and the wider team in the day to day running of the service. They will be expected to see young people with a range of mental health conditions independently, seeking appropriate supervision as and when required.
The postholder will offer a mix of routine and urgent appointments in response to the needs of the service. The postholder will be expected to join multidisciplinary reviews and multiagency meetings as and when required.
The postholder will hold a caseload of patients under supervision of the consultant.
The post holder will have responsibility for the assessment and management of mental and/or behavioural needs of children and young people presenting with mental disorder and requiring assessment for neurodevelopmental needs.
There are opportunities to become a GMC registered trainer e.g. clinical and / or educational supervisor.
