Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and diligent Apprentice HGV Technician/Inspector to join our dynamic team. This entry-level position offers a valuable opportunity to develop technical skills in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair within a professional workshop environment. The role will include training to IRTEC inspector standards to carry out PMI inspections and servicing.
The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience working on a variety of commercial vehicles under the guidance of an experienced technician. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about engineering, mechanics, and vehicle maintenance who are eager to learn and grow within the industry.
Duties
- Assist in the inspection, diagnosis, and repair of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and related equipment.
- Read and interpret schematics and technical diagrams to aid in repairs and maintenance.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment to carry out repairs efficiently and safely.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tyre replacements, and brake inspections.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organised workshop environment to ensure health and safety compliance.
- Support senior technicians with heavy lifting and manoeuvring of vehicle components or machinery.
- Provide excellent customer service by ensuring work is completed accurately and efficiently.
Requirements
- Genuine interest in vehicle mechanics, electrical systems or related fields.
- Basic mechanical knowledge or experience with hand tools, power tools, or assembly work is desirable but not essential; training will be provided.
- Ability to read schematics and technical diagrams is advantageous.
- Willingness to undertake training in electrical systems, equipment repair, and maintenance procedures.
- Good organisational skills with an eye for detail to ensure quality workmanship.
- Physically fit with the ability to perform heavy lifting safely.
- Strong communication skills and a positive attitude towards learning new skills.
- Valid UK driving licence is preferred but not mandatory; however, some roles may require it for certain tasks involving vehicle movement or site access.
