Position Summary
Gener8 is looking for an experienced and proactive Senior IT & Projects Engineer to join
our growing IT team. This hands-on role is ideal for someone with a strong background
in both IT support and Audio Visual (AV) technologies who enjoys working across a
variety of customer environments.
You will be responsible for providing advanced technical support, configuring and
maintaining IT and AV equipment, and supporting both internal users and external
customers. A key aspect of the role involves attending customer sites after AV systems
have been installed to commission equipment, configure systems, calibrate projectors
and displays, test room functionality, and ensure spaces are fully operational and
performing to the highest standard.
While you will not routinely be responsible for the physical installation of AV equipment,
a solid understanding of AV installations, signal flow, and room setup is highly desirable
and will be a significant advantage when diagnosing issues, commissioning systems,
and supporting customers. LED experience would also be a benefit.
The successful candidate will also assist with hardware builds, device deployments,
and support the ongoing management of our BLIS platform and internal IT
infrastructure.
You will also take ownership of the project management of internal IT projects and of
client-facing software and hardware deliveries, planning and scheduling work,
coordinating internal teams and suppliers, tracking progress and keeping customers
and stakeholders informed from initial scoping through to handover and sign-off.
As the role includes regular travel to customer sites for commissioning, support and
maintenance visits, a full UK driving licence is essential.
Key Responsibilities
IT Support
- Provide second and third-line technical support for internal users and external
customers.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software and network issues.
- Install, configure and maintain desktops, laptops, mobile devices and
peripherals.
- Support Microsoft Windows environments, Microsoft 365 and business
applications.
- Escalate and resolve complex technical issues while maintaining excellent
customer service.
Audio Visual (AV) Support & Commissioning
- Attend customer sites following AV installations to configure, test and
commission spaces.
- Configure, align and calibrate projectors to ensure optimum performance.
- Verify that installed AV systems are fully operational and meet customer
requirements.
- Diagnose and resolve AV hardware, connectivity and configuration issues.
- Carry out preventative maintenance, software updates and performance checks
on AV systems.
- Provide user guidance and technical support on installed AV equipment where
required.
Hardware & PC Builds
- Build, configure and deploy desktop PCs and workstation hardware where
required.
- Upgrade and repair existing hardware including memory, storage and other
internal components.
- Prepare and configure devices for deployment.
- Maintain accurate hardware inventory and asset records.
Project Management
- Take ownership of internal IT projects from initial scoping through to delivery,
completion and sign-off.
- Manage client-facing software and hardware projects, coordinating timelines,
resources, deliverables and budgets.
- Maintain project plans, schedules, task status and supporting documentation in
ClickUp.
- Work with sales, software, installation and support teams to ensure projects are
delivered to time, cost and specification.
- Track hardware requirements, procurement and supplier lead times to prevent
delays on site.
- Act as a technical point of contact for customers throughout the project
lifecycle, providing regular progress updates.
- Manage risks, dependencies and change requests, escalating issues to the IT
Manager where appropriate.
- Carry out project handover to support and produce post-project documentation
and lessons learned.
Site Visits & Customer Support
- Travel to customer sites to commission systems, carry out maintenance,
troubleshoot issues and provide technical support.
- Build strong relationships with customers by delivering a professional and high quality service.
- Produce commissioning reports and installation sign-off documentation where
required.
- Work closely with installation teams and project managers to ensure successful
project completion.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a senior IT support or IT technician role.
- Strong Audio Visual (AV) knowledge and experience is desired.
- Experience configuring and supporting projectors.
- Experience calibrating projectors and AV equipment to achieve optimal room
performance.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across both IT and AV environments.
- Excellent knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365 and
networking fundamentals.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrable experience managing technical projects through to delivery,
covering both software and hardware.
- Confident coordinating multiple stakeholders, suppliers and internal teams
across several concurrent projects.
- Strong organisational and documentation skills, with the ability to track project
progress and report on status.
- Full UK Driving Licence (essential) with willingness to travel to customer sites.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Previous experience installing AV systems or working alongside AV installation
teams.
- Understanding of AV signal flow, cabling, room commissioning and system
integration.
- Experience building custom desktop PCs and workstation hardware.
- Knowledge of Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms or other unified communications
platforms.
- Experience with ClickUp or similar project management software.
- Formal project management training or certification such as PRINCE2, APM or
Agile.
- Experience managing software development or deployment projects alongside
hardware delivery.
- Networking knowledge including switches, VLANs and wireless infrastructure.
