Key Responsibilities
Deliver exceptional customer service and create a welcoming café environment.
Supervise and support the café team throughout daily operations.
Lead shifts and take responsibility for the café in the absence of the Unit Manager.
Prepare and serve high-quality food and beverages, including coffee.
Ensure café standards, food safety, hygiene, and brand requirements are consistently maintained.
Support the induction, training, and development of new team members.
Handle customer feedback and complaints professionally and efficiently.
Complete opening and closing procedures in line with company standards.
Support stock control, food waste management, cash handling, and café administration.
Help deliver café sales targets while maintaining excellent operational standards.
Promote a safe working environment and ensure compliance with all health and safety procedures.
Communicate effectively with the Unit Manager and wider team to support operational performance.

As a Café Supervisor, you'll be part of a dynamic, fast-paced team, supporting the Unit Manager in delivering exceptional food and world-class customer service within a busy Sainsbury's Taste Café. You'll oversee day-to-day café operations, supervise the team during shifts, and help deliver an outstanding customer experience while maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety, and operational excellence. Your key responsibilities will include:
Preparing delicious, high-quality food and beverages to company standards
Supervising the café team to ensure exceptional customer service is delivered at all times
Leading shifts and taking responsibility for the café in the absence of the Unit Manager
Supporting and developing team members through coaching, training, and leading by example
Communicating regularly with the Unit Manager to support operational targets, KPIs, and café performance
Representing Sainsbury's Taste Café and Compass Group with a professional and positive brand image
Liaising with customers and the café team to resolve queries and exceed customer expectations
Completing opening and closing procedures in line with company standards
Supporting stock control, food waste management, cash handling, and café administration
Implementing and maintaining the highest standards of Food Safety, Health & Safety, and hygiene compliance
Ensuring the café remains clean, safe, organised, and welcoming throughout each shift
Our ideal Café Supervisor will:
Be passionate about great-tasting food and delivering exceptional customer service
Have previous supervisory experience within a café, hospitality, catering, or retail environment
Have a minimum of two years' experience in a customer-facing catering or hospitality role
Have experience leading and motivating teams in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrate excellent communication, organisation, and leadership skills
Be confident making decisions and taking ownership when managing shifts
Have a strong understanding of food hygiene, health & safety, and operational standards (a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate is advantageous)
