Job overview

We are seeking a dynamic Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our East Rehab Therapies Team.

In this varied and rewarding role, you’ll manage a diverse caseload of individuals with complex needs across community and inpatient settings, using evidence‑based practice to deliver high‑quality, person‑centred rehabilitation. You’ll exercise professional autonomy when assessing, planning and reviewing interventions, and play a key part in triaging new referrals into the service.

You will support and guide junior colleagues, including rotational Band 5 therapists and wider team members, while also taking a lead role in supervising Occupational Therapy students. As an experienced clinician, you’ll contribute to service development, helping shape and enhance therapy pathways to deliver the best outcomes for our patients.

Main duties of the job

To manage a defined caseload of patients with complex needs within the Community and inpatient settings using evidence-based practice, occupational therapy process and patient-centered principles
To provide a high standard occupational therapy to the service, performing advanced assessments of patients including those with highly complex presentations, and from this formulating a diagnosis and treatment plan.
To have an active role with the triage of new referrals coming into the teams.
To provide leadership and support for junior staff through supervision, training, and appraisal as well as leading with occupational therapy students
To participate in the planning and development of therapy services.
Model and deliver excellent evidence based clinical care, working as an autonomous Practitioner.
To support the community rehabilitation and inpatient service in line with a ‘one workforce’ culture across services, settings, and sectors in the community and step-down intermediate care settings.

Education and Experience

Essential criteria

Professional Qualification - Degree or Diploma in Occupational therapy.
Relevant experience or Evidence of professional knowledge acquired through specialist courses
Current Professional registration - HCPC

Desirable criteria

Post graduate qualification to diploma level or equivalent
Experience in leadership and managing a team

Knowledge and abilities

Desirable criteria

Good teaching ability/education experience providing training in a range of subjects on a regular basis

Skills and Aptitude

Essential criteria

Highly specialist assessment and treatment skills in patients with multiple pathologies
Highly specialist skills in psychological care
