Principle Objective
Reporting to the Plant Manager, Supervisor or Shift Team Lead, the Volvo Driver will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of timber and materials throughout the log yard and production areas. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring a continuous flow of timber to support sawmill operations while maintaining the highest standards of safety and housekeeping.
Knowledge & Experience
– Previous experience operating a Volvo loading shovel or similar heavy plant machinery.
– Valid Volvo Loading Shovel/Plant Operator Ticket (or equivalent recognised certification) with the ability to provide evidence of competency.
– Strong commitment to Health & Safety standards.
– Ability to work effectively within a busy industrial environment.
– Reliable, flexible and dependable approach to work.
– Good communication and teamwork skills.
– Operate Volvo loading shovel and associated plant equipment safely and efficiently.
– Load, unload and transport logs, timber products and by-products across the site.
– Maintain a consistent supply of materials to support production requirements.
– Complete daily machine inspections and pre-start safety checks.
– Identify and report equipment defects, maintenance issues, or safety concerns.
– Work closely with production, maintenance and logistics teams.
– Adhere to all company Health, Safety and Environmental procedures.
– Maintain excellent housekeeping standards throughout the site.
– Assist with truck loading and unloading activities as required.
– Participate in training, toolbox talks and continuous improvement initiatives.
– Experience within a sawmill, forestry, quarry, recycling, construction, or heavy industrial environment.
– Loading shovel, forklift, telehandler, tractor, or other plant operation certification.
– Familiarity with stock management, timber handling, and yard operations.
– Mechanical awareness and basic maintenance experience.
– Full compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental procedures, supporting the company's zero-harm objective.
– Safe and efficient operation of loading shovel equipment.
– Consistent supply of timber and materials to meet production requirements.
– Effective handling of timber and materials, minimising waste, damage and downtime.
