The Role
The role of this specialist pharmacy technician post is to work within the NHS Lanarkshire (NHSL) Gastroenterology/Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Pharmacy Team. This pharmacy team works closely with the wider IBD Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), including Gastroenterologists and specialist IBD nurses, to provide high quality, patient-centred pharmaceutical and clinical care to IBD patients in NHSL. As a key member of the IBD MDT, the pharmacy role contributes to safe and effective medicines use for IBD patients through direct clinical involvement and service co-ordination.
The clinical pharmacy technician will work closely with the existing IBD pharmacy team to provide consistent, efficient and person-focused support for IBD patients receiving advanced therapies. The role will include patient facing clinical activity, support for IBD MDT members, participation in clinics, virtual reviews, and coordinating medicines supply processes (including aseptic and homecare medicines management). They will also have an important role in financial and clinical governance.
In this key role, you will:
The post holder will assess, manage and provide pharmaceutical care to individual patients referring to and liaising closely with a clinical pharmacist as appropriate.
The post holder will print Emergency Care Summaries, assess GP information and Patients own drugs to compile a medication history, liaising with patients, GP’s, community pharmacies, care homes and carers as appropriate.
The postholder will ensure that patients admitted to the ward have their own medicines assessed, a full medication history documented appropriately in the multidisciplinary notes and pharmaceutical care plan initiated.
The post holder will encourage compliance / concordance by providing advice to patients / carers on the appropriate use of their medications including side effects, doses and duration of treatment, supported by patient information leaflets / checklists eg warfarin / anticoagulant education, education
What You'll Bring:
National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent
SVQ Level III
Registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Dispensary checking qualification.
Commitment to CPD as per GPhC recommendations.
Substantial experience as a qualified pharmacy technician in hospital pharmacy.
