The product team play a critical role in achieving our business objectives by developing innovative new products, staying up to date with the latest industry trends/technology and providing continuous support to the sales and marketing teams. The Product team is a cornerstone in Origin Fitness delivering on our objectives and a key element of the future growth plan for the business.
Job Description
Origin Fitness is seeking a motivated individual to join its Product department. The Junior Design Engineer candidate will be tasked with delivering development projects on time and on budget; working closely with Marketing, Sales and Service to support our products and their completed projects. The successful candidate will also be involved in showcasing our products through high-quality renders, animations, and supporting materials that they will be responsible for creating.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of product development work in line with the development roadmap
- Support and assist the Product team in their tasks, following the plan of the live roadmap
- Conduct product research to guide range development
- Liaise with our international supply chain to manage development and production of your assigned projects
- CAD modelling of product(s)
- Production of technical drawings for manufacture and interdepartmental support
- Production of high quality renders for marketing and sales purposes.
- Production of high quality animations or motion graphics for marketing and sales purposes
- Manage and update the company’s 3D model library
- The creation of product documentation for your completed projects
- Support with product information and technical support on the entire range
- Assist the team with any testing work as required
- Maintain a good and active knowledge of the fitness industry and its trends
- Create, maintain and manage product documentation in the company archive both for new launches and existing products
Essential Skills and Competencies
- Honours Degree in Product Design Engineering/Innovation/Industrial Design/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent accredited degree programme. HND level education in a relevant or aforementioned field is also acceptable
- Experience and understanding of mechanical design, manufacturing processes and materials
- Previous practical design experience resulting in a completed project
- Excellent understanding of the design process and core principles
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 Products
- Experience with 3D CAD Software – preferably Autodesk Inventor
- Experience with rendering and editing images, ideally working in 3DS Max or Blender
- Efficient with attention to detail
- Strong teamwork skills and an enthusiasm for learning and sharing
- Ability to manage own time and workload
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good written communication skills and a proven ability to communicate your designs
- A portfolio of previous work which can be submitted for review is a requirement of application to this role.
Desirable Skills and Competencies
- Some previous experience or exposure to fitness, sports or physical training. This can be a professional, personal, or educational experience.
- A knowledge of the fitness industry and enthusiasm to work on growing a fitness brand
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud Package
- Experience designing product(s) for a commercial environment, in any industry
