Data Engineer
Salary: £50,000
Location: Oldham, with hybrid working
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Permanent
At First Choice Homes Oldham, we’re improving lives through great homes and services. We’re looking for a Data Engineer to help us strengthen how we store, manage, connect and use data across the organisation.
This is an exciting time to join our Data Team. We’ve recently launched our Data Strategy and are investing in better data governance, data literacy and modern data infrastructure. You’ll play a key role in improving our dataflows, supporting the move from legacy platforms such as SSIS, SSAS and SSRS to Microsoft Fabric, and helping colleagues access trusted data that supports better decision-making.
This is a hands-on delivery role, but you’ll also have the opportunity to influence standards, improve ways of working and contribute to FCHO’s growing data capability.
Please see full job description at the bottom of this page
What you’ll be doing
You’ll:
Build, maintain and improve reliable data pipelines, transformations and storage processes
Support the transition to Microsoft Fabric, including pipelines, Lakehouses, warehouses and semantic models
Work with colleagues across Data, ICT and operational teams to understand requirements and deliver practical data solutions
Help improve data quality, governance, documentation and automation
Support data literacy activity by sharing knowledge and helping colleagues build confidence with data
Produce clear technical documentation so solutions are easy to maintain, audit and improve
Contribute to pilots, proof-of-value work and digital transformation projects
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone with:
Experience in a data engineering or closely related role
Strong SQL skills and experience working with structured and semi-structured data
Experience supporting data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes or reporting platforms
Knowledge of data engineering principles, including ingestion, transformation, storage and orchestration
Experience working with multiple systems and understanding how data flows between them
The ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical colleagues
Good documentation skills and a strong eye for data quality, governance and accuracy
Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Python, Spark, T-SQL, CI/CD tools, CRM systems or housing systems would be beneficial, and we’re interested in people who are keen to learn and develop.
Why join us?
You’ll be joining a supportive team with structured training, knowledge sharing and hands-on guidance to help you develop your technical skills. We value experience with legacy platforms and will support you to transition into newer technologies as our data capability grows.
