Junior Business Operations Associate
Location: [Derby / Hybrid]
Salary: [£25,500–£27,500, depending on experience]
Company: Home.co.uk
About the role
We are looking for a smart, resourceful and highly adaptable person to join our team as a Junior Business Operations Associate.
This is a broad, hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving problems, learning quickly and getting involved across different areas of a growing technology business.
One day, you may be researching a new commercial opportunity. The next, you could be improving an internal process, testing a new product feature, helping a customer, cleaning up data or supporting the launch of a new service.
This is not a traditional administrative role. You will be expected to think independently, investigate problems, suggest solutions and help put those solutions into practice.
You do not need years of experience. We are more interested in intelligence, initiative, judgement and your ability to get things done.
What you will be doing
You will work across operations, product, growth, customer experience and special projects.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Researching business problems, competitors and new opportunities.
- Supporting the launch of new products, services and internal projects.
- Improving processes and identifying tasks that can be simplified or automated.
- Testing new software features and clearly documenting bugs or improvements.
- Managing spreadsheets, systems, CRM records and operational data.
- Helping prepare reports, presentations and internal documentation.
- Drafting customer, partner and internal communications.
- Supporting customers and business partners when issues need resolving.
- Coordinating tasks between different members of the team.
- Using AI tools to research, write, analyse information and work more efficiently.
- Taking ownership of miscellaneous projects that do not sit neatly within one department.
- Spotting problems before they become bigger and helping to fix them.
The role will evolve over time based on your strengths and the needs of the business.
What we are looking for
We are looking for someone who is:
- Intelligent, curious and quick to learn.
- Comfortable working across several different areas.
- Highly organised and able to manage competing priorities.
- A clear and confident written communicator.
- Comfortable with spreadsheets, software and digital tools.
- Willing to take ownership rather than wait for detailed instructions.
- Able to turn an unclear problem into a practical plan.
- Commercially aware and interested in how businesses work.
- Comfortable asking questions, but also capable of working things out independently.
- Interested in technology, AI, property or startups.
- Happy working in a fast-moving environment where priorities can change.
Experience
You may be a recent graduate, have one or two years of professional experience, or be looking to move from a narrower role into something with more responsibility.
Experience in any of the following would be useful, but is not essential:
- Business operations.
- Project coordination.
- Account management.
- Customer success.
- Research or analysis.
- Startups or small businesses.
- Property or financial services.
- Technology or software businesses.
- Using AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude or similar platforms.
We care more about what you can do than your previous job title.
Evidence that you have independently organised, built, improved or delivered something will stand out. This could include a side project, society, small business, event, website, campaign or personal project.
What success looks like
Within your first few months, you will:
- Understand how the different parts of the business work.
- Take ownership of recurring operational tasks.
- Improve at least one inefficient process.
- Become someone the wider team can rely on to investigate and resolve problems.
- Help move projects forward without needing constant supervision.
- Use technology and AI to make yourself and the team more effective.
Why join us?
Home.co.uk is building technology that helps people and businesses navigate the property market more effectively.
You will work closely with the leadership team and gain exposure to multiple areas of the business, including operations, technology, product, commercial strategy and customer experience.
This role offers a much broader learning opportunity than a conventional entry-level position. For the right person, there will be significant scope to take on more responsibility and develop into a more senior operations, product or commercial role and work directly with the founders
How to apply
Please send us your CV together with a short answer to the following questions:
- Tell us about something you have independently built, organised or improved.
- Describe a situation where you had to solve a problem without clear instructions.
- Which AI tools do you currently use, and what do you use them for?
- Why does a broad generalist role appeal to you?
We are not looking for a generic cover letter. Clear, specific and honest answers will stand out.
