The Group Accountant will be responsible for managing the day-to-day financial
operations of the Emergency Group and its associated companies, working closely
with the Senior Bookkeeper to deliver a complete in-house finance function.
Together, the Group Accountant and Senior Bookkeeper will be responsible for all
bookkeeping, management accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, cash flow
management, VAT compliance, and audit preparation across the Group's UK and
international businesses.
The role will also act as the primary liaison with external accountants for payroll
processing, statutory accounts preparation, corporation tax matters, and Companies House filings.

Key Responsibilities
Finance Leadership
- Work alongside the Senior Bookkeeper to manage the Group's finance function.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting across all Group companies.
- Develop and maintain financial controls, procedures, and governance standards.
- Support the Director of Customer Service, Operations & Finance with financial planning and business decision-making.
Financial Accounting
- Review and maintain all accounting records across multiple entities.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes.
- Review journals, accruals, prepayments, and intercompany transactions.
- Maintain balance sheet integrity through regular reconciliations.
- Oversee fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.
Management Reporting
- Produce monthly management accounts.
- Prepare profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
- Monitor budgets and forecasts.
- Analyse financial performance and identify trends and opportunities.
- Produce financial reports for Directors and senior management.
Cash Flow & Treasury
- Manage Group cash flow and forecasting.
- Monitor debtor and creditor positions.
- Authorise and oversee supplier payment runs.
- Assist with foreign currency and international transactions.
Compliance & Audit
- Prepare and review VAT returns.
- Coordinate year-end audit preparation.
- Compile schedules and supporting documentation for auditors.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies.
- Liaise with external accountants regarding payroll, statutory accounts, tax matters, and Companies House submissions.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve financial efficiency and reporting.
- Support the implementation of financial systems and automation.
- Develop consistent financial processes across all Group companies.
Essential
- Accounting qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5 years' experience in accounting or finance.
- Experience preparing management accounts.
- Strong understanding of multi-company accounting.
- Experience working with auditors and external accountants.
- Excellent analytical and reconciliation skills.
- Advanced Excel and accounting software knowledge.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Experience within international businesses.
- Knowledge of statutory accounting and VAT regulations.
- Experience in manufacturing, healthcare, safety, emergency services, or
- distribution sectors.
Key Objective
To work in partnership with the Senior Bookkeeper to provide a complete in-house
finance function for the Emergency Group, ensuring accurate financial management,
strong controls, timely reporting, audit readiness, and effective support for the
continued growth of the business.
Pay: £50,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
