About the Role
Activ8 Mktg is seeking a skilled, proactive Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer to join our technology infrastructure team in London. In this critical role, you will take complete ownership of the performance, availability, expansion, and security of our core IT infrastructure, cloud services, and global network systems.
Working alongside Software Developers, DevOps, Cybersecurity, and Technical Support teams, you will tackle complex Tier 3 technical escalations, lead infrastructure migration projects, and automate administrative workflows. This position balances hands-on systems engineering with technical leadership, providing mentorship to mid-level engineers while maintaining resilient 24/7 system reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Architecture & Engineering: Design, deploy, and maintain server environments (Windows Server and Linux distributions), virtualized infrastructure (VMware vSphere / Hyper-V), and high-availability storage systems (SAN/NAS).
- Network & Connectivity Governance: Configure, secure, and monitor core network devices, including next-generation firewalls, switches, routers, VPNs, SD-WAN, and VLAN configurations.
- Hybrid Cloud & Identity Management: Administer and optimize hybrid cloud setups integrating Microsoft 365, Entra ID (Azure AD), Active Directory, Group Policy, and Microsoft Azure cloud workloads.
- Tier 3 Incident Escalation: Serve as the senior technical lead for high-severity infrastructure incidents, running detailed root-cause analyses (RCA) and implementing preventative measures.
- High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Maintain, test, and document enterprise backup, replication, and disaster recovery platforms (Veeam, Zerto, Azure Site Recovery) to satisfy tight RPO and RTO SLAs.
- Automation, Compliance & Mentorship: Script operational workflows using PowerShell or Bash, enforce security standards (ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials), and mentor junior systems engineers.
Skills & QualificationsEssential
- 5+ years of commercial experience as an IT Infrastructure Engineer, Senior Systems Administrator, or Systems Engineer within a structured enterprise environment.
- Deep technical expertise across Windows Server (2016–2022) and Linux operating systems.
- Proven background in enterprise virtualization using VMware vSphere/ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Solid networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP/OSPF, VLANs, VPNs, and Next-Gen Firewall administration (e.g., Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco).
- Hands-on management of Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and Azure/Entra ID identity access management.
- Proficiency in operational scripting using PowerShell or Bash for automation.
- Demonstrated experience managing enterprise-grade backup, restoration, and disaster recovery solutions.
Desirable
- Relevant Professional Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, VMware VCP, Cisco CCNA/CCNP, or CompTIA Network+/Security+.
- Exposure to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) or configuration management tools (Terraform, Ansible).
- Hands-on experience with cloud workload migrations (AWS or Microsoft Azure).
- Understanding of ITIL v4 framework and ITSM service delivery practices.
