Full job description

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Vehicle Mechanic operating on a self-employed basis to provide expert repair and maintenance services. This role offers the flexibility of working Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, with a focus on delivering high-quality vehicle repairs. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in a professional manner. A comprehensive understanding of vehicle systems and hands-on experience with various tools are essential for success in this position.

Duties

Diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicle issues using schematics and technical manuals
Perform routine maintenance tasks including oil changes, brake inspections, and tyre rotations
Utilise hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment to carry out repairs efficiently and safely
Conduct assembly and disassembly of vehicle components during repair processes
Identify faulty parts and execute equipment repairs or replacements as needed
Maintain detailed records of all work undertaken for each vehicle
Ensure all repairs meet safety standards and manufacturer specifications
Provide excellent customer service by explaining repair processes and advising on maintenance needs
Undertake heavy lifting when required to move or position vehicle parts or equipment

Experience

Proven experience as a vehicle mechanic with a strong understanding of mechanical systems
Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics and technical diagrams
Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and assembly techniques
Knowledge of vehicle maintenance procedures and equipment repair methods
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently during repairs or part replacements
Prior experience working independently as a self-employed mechanic is preferred
Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly
