Full job description

Our Criminal department is looking for a Legal Assistant to join the Basingstoke team. The ideal candidate will have excellent academic qualifications, a professional manner and a commitment to high quality service delivery. The individual will have excellent organisational skills and be comfortable working under pressure. Previous experience of criminal law is desirable. You will receive ongoing training and support to develop your career.

The firm's Criminal department is busy and successful, collaborating with some of the leading Criminal Law experts in the Hampshire and Surrey area. In this role, you will engage in a diverse range of criminal matters, encompassing both private and publicly funded cases.

Duties

Opening files and drafting initial letters
Assisting with incoming calls
Taking new enquiries
Dealing with admin in relation to criminal matters
Assisting Solicitors with case preparation, including drafting legal documents, pleadings, and correspondence
Managing case files and maintaining accurate records
Communicating with clients, counsel, and court personnel
Scheduling appointments and hearings
Liaising with Counsel’s clerks re Court hearings, conferences with Counsel

Experience - Essential & Desirable:

Have a Degree or CILEX qualification
Have excellent oral and written communication skills
Be IT literate and a confident user of MS office
Have the ability to manage a busy workload and excellent organisational skills
Have the ability to work either alone or collaboratively with other team members
Have confidence in client facing communications
Have attention to accuracy and detail
Be a collaborative team member with the ability to build relationships quickly with a wide range of people
Be receptive to facilitate and support change
Be flexible, reliable and pragmatic and have a problem-solving approach
Be comfortable working under pressure with the ability to plan and prioritise work
