About the Role
We are building Prepping.co.uk into a serious UK-focused resource for sensible, practical preparedness.
This is not about extreme “doomsday” content. The aim is to create useful, grounded articles that help ordinary people prepare for everyday disruptions such as power cuts, water supply issues, food shortages, storms, financial disruption, travel problems and other realistic emergencies.
We are looking for a Content Creator / Website Writer to join us in the office and take responsibility for writing clear, useful and well-researched content for the site.
You will be writing articles, guides, checklists and educational content designed to help build Prepping.co.uk into one of the leading UK websites in this space.
Main Responsibilities
Your main role will be to research, plan and write content for Prepping.co.uk.
This will include:
- Writing practical articles and guides on prepping, emergency preparedness and self-reliance.
- Creating beginner-friendly content for people new to prepping.
- Researching topics properly and checking facts before publishing.
- Writing in clear British English.
- Helping build content sections around core prepping topics such as water, food, power, first aid, communications, money, security and household resilience.
- Creating useful checklists, buying guides and “how to” articles.
- Making content readable, structured and suitable for the web.
- Helping identify new article ideas based on search demand, customer questions and current events.
- Using SEO best practice when writing, including headings, titles, internal links and clear page structure.
- Working with AI tools where useful, while still applying human judgement, editing and fact-checking.
- Helping keep older content up to date as the site grows.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who can write well, think clearly and produce useful content consistently.
The ideal person will have:

- The ability to explain practical topics in a simple, helpful way.
- Good research skills.
- A sensible, grounded approach to preparedness.
- Basic understanding of SEO, or a willingness to learn.
- Good attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently once given a topic or brief.
- A willingness to come into the office Monday to Friday.
You do not need to be an “expert prepper”, but you do need to be curious, practical and willing to learn the subject properly.
Useful Experience
The following would be helpful, but not essential:
- Writing blog articles or website content.
- Experience with WordPress or another CMS.
- SEO content writing.
- Outdoor, camping, bushcraft or survival knowledge.
- Retail/e-commerce experience.
- Experience creating checklists, guides or educational content.
- Photography, graphics or basic image creation skills.
The Type of Content We Want
The tone of the site should be practical, calm and useful.
Examples of the type of content you may write include:
- How much water should you store at home in the UK?
- Beginner’s guide to emergency food storage.
- What to do during a power cut.
- How to build a simple home emergency kit.
- Sensible prepping for families.
- What should be in a car emergency kit?
- How to prepare for winter storms.
- Useful items to keep at home in case of disruption.
- Prepping on a budget.
