Retail Shop Manager / Butcher – Boroughbridge
Appleton’s is a well-established traditional pork butcher and pie maker with shops in Ripon, Wetherby, Boroughbridge, and Knaresborough. We are looking for an experienced Retail Shop Manager / Butcher to lead our busy and well-established Boroughbridge shop.
This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, sales-driven professional who takes pride in traditional butchery, exceptional customer service and high-quality food retailing.
As a family business, we are passionate about sourcing outstanding local produce. We work closely with local farmers and suppliers and have our own small farm, allowing us to offer customers exceptional quality and provenance.
The Role
You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our busy retail shop, leading by example and ensuring the highest standards are maintained at all times. You will be passionate about delivering an outstanding shopping experience while driving sales and maintaining our reputation for quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the daily operation of our Boroughbridge shop.
- Delivering exceptional customer service and building lasting customer relationships.
- Preparing and presenting meat to the highest retail standards.
- Maximising sales through excellent merchandising, product presentation and upselling.
- Maintaining consistently high standards of display to ensure every counter looks outstanding.
- Managing stock levels, ordering and minimising waste.
- Leading, motivating and developing the shop team.
- Ensuring full compliance with food hygiene and health and safety.
- Maintaining our traditional values and brand standards in every aspect of the business.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Proven retail butchery experience.
- Previous experience managing or supervising a busy retail shop.
- Excellent butchery skills and a passion for quality produce.
- Outstanding customer service and communication skills.
- A sales-focused approach with the ability to grow turnover.
- Strong stock management and organisational skills.
- A thorough understanding of food hygiene, health and safety procedures.
- High standards with exceptional attention to detail.
- Pride in maintaining immaculate displays and a first-class shopping environment.
