About Broadacres
Broadacres is a not-for-profit rural housing association based in Northallerton, with a long history of providing homes and services that make a real difference to people’s lives across North Yorkshire.
We own, manage and invest in more than 7,000 homes across rural areas, market towns and surrounding communities, helping people to live safely, affordably and well in places they are proud to call home.
Our role is about much more than bricks and mortar. We work in communities where the need for good quality, affordable housing is significant, and where rurality brings its own challenges around access, services, infrastructure and opportunity. That gives Broadacres a very clear social purpose, but also a responsibility to ensure that we are as effective, efficient and responsive as we can be.
This is an exciting time for Broadacres. We are already providing good homes and services, but we have a clear ambition to do more. We want to play our part in the success of North Yorkshire by providing more homes for people who need them and improving services and outcomes for customers and communities.
As we look to the future, we recognise that we need to strengthen the way we work, improve value for money, make better use of data and technology, and build momentum and confidence in our organisational transformation.
This is not transformation for its own sake. It is about making Broadacres a stronger, more joined-up and more capable organisation, so that we can continue to deliver for our customers and communities now and in the future. The work ahead will require clarity, pace and challenge, but also empathy, collaboration and a genuine commitment to bringing colleagues with us.
Broadacres is an organisation with real ambition, an important local role and a strong connection to the rural communities we serve. This appointment will help shape the next chapter of that journey.
The opportunity
This is a significant executive leadership opportunity at the centre of Broadacres’ next phase.
As Executive Director of Transformation, you will lead an organisation-wide transformation programme over an expected 18-month to two-year period. Reporting to the Chief Executive and working closely with the Executive Team, Board and Transformation Programme Steering Group, you will bring the structure, discipline, pace and assurance needed to turn ambition into delivery.
The programme will focus on four connected workstreams:
Financial: Connecting financial performance with service delivery and customer outcomes, improving value for money and strengthening confidence around delivery.
Service delivery: Improving efficiency, effectiveness, accountability and end-to-end customer journeys.
Culture: Supporting refreshed values and behaviours, strengthening colleague engagement and building greater ownership and accountability across the organisation.
Digital: Accelerating the digital agenda, improving systems integration and ensuring technology, data and digital capability become practical enablers of better services and stronger performance.
This is a role for someone who can provide executive leadership and delivery discipline without making change feel remote or theoretical. Broadacres needs a senior transformation leader who can work at pace, challenge constructively, bring colleagues with them and make change feel practical, human and deliverable.
The impact
This role will be central to how Broadacres builds firm foundations for the future.
You will:
Lead the 18-month to two-year transformation programme.
Establish clear programme governance, reporting, milestones, dependencies and accountability.
Work directly with the Chief Executive, Executive Team, Board and Transformation Programme Steering Group.
Lead delivery across the four transformation workstreams: financial, service delivery, culture and digital.
Bring programme and project management discipline to an organisation that is continuing to build maturity in this area.
Hold senior colleagues and workstream leads to account for delivery.
Build confidence with the Board around pace, delivery, risk, progress and benefits.
Support stronger links between financial performance, service delivery and customer outcomes.
Help improve efficiency, effectiveness and value for money.
Support cultural change, colleague engagement and clearer organisational accountability.
Work closely with the Assistant Director Digital & Technology to ensure digital is embedded in the wider programme.
Ensure transformation activity remains connected to Broadacres’ social purpose and customer priorities.
The successful candidate will need to be both strategic and practical. You will be comfortable operating at Board and Executive Team level, but equally able to work with colleagues across the organisation to create clarity, confidence and momentum.
Location & working pattern
Broadacres is based in Northallerton, North Yorkshire.
This role will require visible leadership and regular presence with colleagues, the Executive Team and the Board. The exact working pattern will be discussed with the successful candidate, but candidates should expect to spend meaningful time on site in order to build relationships, understand the organisation and lead change effectively.
This is not a remote programme management role. It is a visible executive leadership appointment requiring presence, credibility and close engagement across Broadacres.
The person
We are looking for an accomplished transformation or programme leader with a strong track record of delivering complex, organisation-wide change.
You may come from housing, local government, health, care, utilities, wider public services, regulated customer service environments or another complex, purpose-led organisation. Housing sector experience would be helpful, but it is not essential where candidates bring the right technical capability, values and ability to work in a regulated, customer-focused environment.
Your experience is likely to include:
Leading complex, organisation-wide transformation programmes.
Operating at Executive Team level or working directly with Executive Teams and Boards.
Establishing programme governance, reporting, milestones, accountability and assurance.
Delivering change across multiple workstreams, such as finance, service delivery, culture, digital, operating model or organisational design.
Working in a complex organisation with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
Connecting transformation activity to service improvement, financial performance and customer outcomes.
Building confidence with Boards and senior stakeholders through clear reporting and assurance.
You will also demonstrate:
Strong programme and project management discipline, applied in a practical and proportionate way.
The ability to bring structure, pace and clarity to complex organisational change.
Sound judgement and the confidence to challenge senior colleagues constructively.
Strong financial and operational awareness.
Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
The ability to bring colleagues with you through change.
A visible, engaging and resilient leadership style.
A strong social conscience and commitment to Broadacres’ purpose.
Broadacres is not looking for someone who is overly theoretical or methodology-led. The right person will understand programme management properly, but will be pragmatic, grounded and focused on making change happen.
Salary & reward
The salary for the role is £124,525 per annum.
The package also includes:
SHPS defined contribution pension, with 10% employer contribution.
Generous holiday allowance.
Wider benefits package to be confirmed.
The role is expected to be an 18-month to two-year contract.
Why this role?
This is an opportunity to join Broadacres at an important point in its journey. The organisation has a clear purpose, strong local connections and an ambition to be the best rural housing association in the country.
Broadacres already has firm foundations, committed colleagues and an important role in rural communities across North Yorkshire. The next phase is about building on those strengths with greater pace, clearer accountability, stronger financial and operational performance, better use of data and technology, and a more mature approach to change.
For the right person, this is a chance to bring professional transformation leadership into an organisation where the work will make a visible difference. You will help create greater structure, confidence and momentum, while ensuring change remains connected to customers, colleagues and communities.
If you are motivated by the opportunity to lead practical, purposeful transformation in a values-led housing association with real ambition for its customers and communities, this is a compelling opportunity to make a lasting impact.
