Oak Street Medical Practice is a team of some 30 members, including 2 partners. We have an exceptional multi-disciplinary team including physician associate, advanced clinical practitioner, nurses, healthcare assistants, social prescriber, mental health nurses, physiotherapist, and pharmacy technician. The Role
We are seeking a Prescription Officer to join our team and play a vital role in ensuring patients receive their medication safely, accurately, and on time. This position is central to the smooth running of our prescription service and involves close collaboration with GPs, clinical pharmacists, nurses, and external healthcare providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Process repeats and acute prescription requests from patients, care homes, and community teams in line with practice protocols.
- Liaise with patients, carers, and local pharmacies to resolve prescription queries promptly.
- Update patient records with hospital discharge summaries and clinic letters.
- Coordinate medication reviews with GPs and clinical pharmacists.
- Handle prescription requests from external providers (e.g., hospitals, dentists, district nurses).
- Ensure compliance with prescribing policies and always maintain confidentiality.
- Respond to MHRA drug alerts and assist with medicines management audits.
- Support monitoring of high-risk medications under guidance.
- Assist with document workflow (tasks, scanned letters, blood results) related to prescriptions.
- Provide cover for colleagues during absence and contribute to a flexible, team-based approach.
- Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives as directed.
- Promote cost-effective prescribing and support electronic repeat dispensing (eRD).
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in a pharmacy setting (community or hospital) or primary care environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills and a professional, patient-focused approach.
- Competence in using clinical systems (SystmOne experience desirable, training provided).
- Ability to prioritise workload and work independently as well as part of a team.
- Willingness to undertake training to maintain competence and keep up to date with best practice.

Reporting Line
You will report directly to the Practice Manager and work closely with clinical staff and the prescriptions team.
