About Us
More Than Ed is a specialist independent SEMH school supporting 29 young people aged 7–16, all of whom hold an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Our students present with needs rooted in Attachment, Trauma, and ASD, and many have experienced significant difficulties in mainstream settings. At More Than Ed, we do things differently.
Our philosophy is simple: behaviour is communication. We don't use sanctions or rewards. Instead, we build genuine, trusting relationships with every young person we work with — and it works. Our trauma-informed, PACE-led approach consistently reduces anxiety and supports meaningful self-regulation.
We understand that success here looks different. A student accepting praise for the first time, choosing to trust an adult, or willingly attempting a piece of learning after years of refusal — these are the achievements we celebrate. At More Than Ed, we believe that emotional regulation and academic learning are inseparable. For many of our young people, the therapeutic and the educational are one and the same, and the ability to regulate, connect, and feel safe is not a stepping stone to achievement — it IS the achievement. We recruit people who understand and embrace that.
Set in a tranquil semi-rural location with beautiful private gardens, our purpose-designed building fosters nurture group teaching, outdoor education, and therapeutic learning. Our students access a bespoke Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum, including English, Maths, adapted National Curriculum subjects, Outdoor Education, Sport, and Vocational Learning. We are supported by an in-house team of professionals including a Speech and Language Therapist, Creative Arts Psychotherapist and all staff are Trauma-Informed.
The Role
We are looking for warm, enthusiastic, and empathic Teaching Assistants to join our team. This is not a role where you'll be supporting 30 children in a busy classroom, managing behaviour from a distance, or feeling like just another pair of hands. At More Than Ed, you matter — to us, and to the young person you work with.
You will work primarily within our unique 1:1 model, acting as both educator and trusted adult for a young person with complex social, emotional, and mental health needs. You will also work within our small group sessions, where meaningful relationships and a calm, nurturing environment allow real learning to take place. With a staff ratio unlike anything you'll find in mainstream education, you will have the time, space, and support to do this job properly.
You will transport your student to and from home each day, building a consistent, secure relationship from the moment they leave their front door. That journey matters — it is often where trust is built, where a young person decides whether today is going to be a good day, and where your relationship with them truly begins.
Progress in our setting is measured relative to each individual's starting point, not against standardised benchmarks. You may support a student through their first day without crisis, or witness them attempt a piece of learning after years of refusing to try. These moments matter enormously — and you will be someone who recognises and values them.
What We’re Looking For
You’ll bring at least two years’ experience working with children with SEMH needs, alongside:
Bucket loads of enthusiasm and a great sense of humour. Patience, empathy, and genuine compassion for vulnerable young people. Strong communication and active listening skills. The ability to motivate, inspire, and earn trust. Good organisational skills and confidence with technology. A commitment to Positive Behaviour Management and relational practice. A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle (essential — you will transport your student daily).
GCSE or equivalent qualification (or above) is required.
What We Offer
Company pension, free on-site parking, and a genuinely rewarding place to work. We also offer a staff wellbeing package which includes access to a 24/7 GP service for you and your immediate family.
