A vacancy for a Shift Engineer has arisen within our production plant at our site in Great Heck, North Yorkshire . Reporting to the Production / Works Manager, the position demands good teamwork and a versatile skill set to fulfil the various responsibilities and duties of the role.
Principle responsibilities will include:
· Hands-on supervision of the safe and efficient operation of the production machinery and equipment and effective scheduling and utilisation of manpower,
· Coordinating all shift/production activities with other Team Leaders,
· Oversee your shift team of operatives, ensuring that they are carrying out required tasks,
· Meet the production targets as set by your line manager,
· Ensuring manufactured product meets the required quality criteria, with all factory production control documents accurately and legibly completed,
· Assisting in the updating of production records/QC data within the IT system as necessary,
· Reduction of waste material/packaging during product manufacture,
· Assistance as required in respect of procurement of materials and consumables,
· Assessment, participation and supervision of routine maintenance of all production related machinery and equipment, and liaising with and assisting the Works Engineer,
· Ensuring the maintenance and cleaning down of production related equipment and machinery is carried out effectively and in a timely manner,
· Actively seeking plant improvement proposals and active participation in their execution,
· Ensuring that operational staff are fully trained and competent and identifying development needs/opportunities,
· Maintenance of a tidy working environment, and dealing with issues as they are identified,
· Ensuring adherence to good health and safety standards at all times, including risk assessment of production related activities,
· Ensuring adequate first aid cover for the plant.
Other responsibilities:
· The jobholder will be required to perform other ad-hoc duties in accordance with the needs of the business,
· The jobholder will be expected to provide holiday / absence cover for other colleagues within the business as and when required, and in accordance with management instructions,
· The jobholder is expected to be receptive to development training of both an in-house and external nature.
A degree of physical activity is intrinsic within this role, including manual handling of precast concrete building blocks, negotiating steps/ladders/vertical ladders, and above ground open-mesh floor walkways, accessing and working within below ground maintenance pits, the use of certain hand tools and some minor maintenance tasks. There is also a requirement to wear items of personal protective equipment, (PPE), including, for certain tasks, respiratory protective equipment.
Working hours:
Working 40 hours per week with a requirement, when necessary, to work up to 48 hours per week. This will be on a 3-shift system, alternating each week 06:00hrs to 18:00hrs Day shift, 18:00hrs to 06:00hrs Night shift, and a Flexi shift. Monday to Friday with a 20 minute paid break. Weekend working required to suit operational demands. Overtime paid above 48 hours, rotating and covering for holidays and sickness as and when required.
