Full job description

Overview

We are seeking a friendly and efficient Deli/Counter Assistant to join our team. This role involves providing excellent customer service, preparing food items, and maintaining high standards of food safety and cleanliness. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food, good organisational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in a restaurant or deli setting is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided. This paid position offers an opportunity to develop culinary skills and gain valuable experience in the food retail industry.

Duties

Prepare and serve a variety of deli products, including cold cuts, cooking pies. Slicing and packing cooked meat
Assist customers with their orders, offering suggestions and upselling products where appropriate
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the counter area, ensuring compliance with food safety standards
Restock shelves and display units with fresh products throughout the shift
Operate cash registers, handle transactions accurately, and provide excellent customer service
Ensure all food items are stored correctly and adhere to health and safety regulations
Assist in the preparation of food items during busy periods to ensure timely service
Follow all hygiene protocols to maintain a clean working environment

Skills

Experience in food preparation or working within a restaurant or deli environment is desirable
Knowledge of food safety standards and procedures
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
Basic maths skills for handling transactions and measuring ingredients
Good communication skills to interact effectively with customers and team members
Ability to work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail
Kitchen or culinary experience is beneficial but not essential; willingness to learn is key
Time management skills to ensure smooth operation during busy periods
Upselling skills to enhance customer experience and increase sales
