We are now looking for a Pre-Construction Manager to join our busy team.
ROLE SPECIFICATION:
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing all estimating activities within the Preconstruction function, ensuring the delivery of accurate, competitive, and commercially robust tender submissions. The role is pivotal in securing profitable new business by balancing competitive pricing with effective risk management and margin protection.
Working closely with Business Development, Operations, Commercial and Design teams, the postholder will develop winning tender strategies, drive continuous improvement within the estimating process, and ensure that all bids align with the organisation's commercial objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the preparation and review of accurate, competitive and commercially robust cost estimates for all tender opportunities.
- Manage the estimating process from initial enquiry through to tender submission, ensuring quality, compliance and delivery to deadlines.
- Analyse tender documentation and develop pricing strategies that balance competitiveness with commercial risk and margin protection.
- Build and maintain cost models, estimating data and benchmarking information to support consistent and accurate pricing.
- Identify commercial risks, opportunities, assumptions and exclusions, ensuring they are clearly documented and communicated.
- Work collaboratively with Technical, Solutions, Operations, Commercial and Procurement teams to develop coordinated and winning tender submissions.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive and compliant pricing.
- Produce cost analysis and tender performance reports, using lessons learned to improve estimating accuracy and bid success.
- Drive continuous improvement in estimating processes, systems and pricing methodologies, promoting innovation and best practice.
- Keep abreast of market trends, legislation and industry developments to ensure estimates remain competitive and compliant.
- Promote a strong culture of health, safety and compliance, ensuring all estimating activities align with company policies, client requirements and relevant legislation.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
- Proven estimating or pre-construction experience within the construction or logistics sector.
- Experience preparing accurate, commercially competitive tender submissions.
- Strong understanding of cost planning, procurement and supply chain management.
- Experience identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
- Strong commercial awareness and financial acumen.
- Excellent analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
- Strong communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills.
- Good understanding of construction methods, Health & Safety, and relevant legislation.
- Commercially focused with excellent attention to detail.
- Proactive, collaborative and able to work under pressure.
- Strong decision-making and leadership skills.
- Committed to continuous improvement, innovation and maintaining high standards of quality, safety and compliance.
