We are recruiting for an Assistant Chief Officer (Environment) to join the Environment & Regeneration Department to support and participate in the overall leadership of the Department. The postholder will support the Director of Environment & Regeneration and will lead, plan and control the operation and staff of the Environment Section which includes Fleet Services & Stores, Waste Services, and Electrical Services and Engineering. You will be the Council’s lead officer on construction/civil projects and will also be the Premises Manager for the Operational depot.
Applicants must have extensive experience of construction/civil/engineering development either within the public or private sector. Prior knowledge and experience of how corporate and support teams are established and operated is essential particularly in relation to strategy and communication. Applicants will also need to be able to demonstrate senior leadership experience at Head of Department/Service level or equivalent. We are looking for a senior leader who can drive the operation forward, think strategically and influence change whilst inspiring colleagues through clear communication.
You must be a highly motivated self-starter and resilient with strong interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to interface with all levels. Solid stakeholder management, relationship building and influencing skills are a must as well as excellent organisational, technical, analytical and program and project management skills. You must also have the ability to think strategically and be able to identify core issues and potential solution strategies in this demanding role.
As a key member of the Department’s Senior Management Team, and a member of the Extended Chief Officers’ Management Team, the role is a vital part of the Department and of the Council as a whole in supporting the effective leadership of the organisation. Delivering services in a sustainable way will be a key emphasis of this role, supporting the whole Council in achieving its low carbon ambitions and delivery of the Corporate Plan.
