Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Advisor to champion safety initiatives across our operations. This is a busy and varied role supporting our HSE division, site management teams and wider business operations. The HSE Advisor will provide operational and administrative support across UKWS projects, helping site teams maintain compliance with company procedures, legal requirements and client standards.
Duties
- Conducting regular workplace and site inspections and reporting unsafe conditions or non-compliance.
- Maintaining HSE policies, procedures, forms, registers and records.
- Assisting with the preparation and review of risk assessments, method statements and COSHH assessments.
- Supporting the reporting and investigation of accidents, incidents, near misses and environmental events.
- Recording findings, monitoring corrective actions and ensuring they are closed within agreed timescales.
- Maintaining training and competency records, including the company training matrix and certificate expiry dates.
- Supporting site inductions, toolbox talks, safety briefings and awareness campaigns.
- Monitoring compliance with legislation, company procedures, client requirements and agreed safe systems of work.
- Supporting internal and external audits, including ISO certification and surveillance audits.
- Collecting and reporting HSE performance information, trends and key performance indicators.
- Monitoring waste management, pollution prevention, spill controls and other environmental arrangements.
- Supporting quality inspections, recording defects and helping track corrective and preventive actions.
- Liaising with site managers, supervisors, employees, subcontractors and clients on SHE matters.
- Promoting hazard, near-miss and improvement reporting across the workforce.
- Promoting & supporting the continuous improvement of the organisation’s SHEQ management systems.
Requirements
- Proven experience in health, safety, or environmental advisory roles within industrial or construction settings
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety regulations and industry standards
- Certification such as NEBOSH or IOSH are advantageous
- Additional qualification such as SMSTS and First Aid would be beneficial, although training can be provided
- Excellent report writing skills with the ability to document incidents clearly and accurately
- Proficiency in conducting site inspections, reviewing RAMS and COSHH assessments
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams at all levels
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a safe work environment through proactive engagement
This role requires regular attendance at construction sites. The successful candidate must be comfortable accessing active work areas and working at height where necessary, subject to appropriate training, risk assessment and safe access arrangements.
