The Role of the Teaching Assistant
The purpose of this role is to support the classroom teacher in raising student achievement and fostering a positive learning environment. You will provide direct, impactful support to individuals and small groups with a particular focus on students requiring additional learning or behavioral guidance, to ensure all pupils can confidently engage with the secondary curriculum. Your work will bridge the gap between teaching and understanding, helping students develop the vital skills and independence needed for academic and personal growth.

Key Duties and Responsibilities of the Teaching Assistant:

To promote the students’ learning, confidence and independence.

To liaise with parents, write reports and IEP’s and attend support strategy meetings as required.

To work with the Special Needs Team supporting the learning and/or emotional needs of students on the Individual Needs Register at School Support and those with Education, Health and Care Plans.

Provide written reports for Annual Reviews and attending meetings where appropriate.

Draw on knowledge of various forms of educational and social needs, to develop an understanding of the specific needs of the students concerned.

Develop a working knowledge of the student’s statement including educational objectives and targets.

Contribute to the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) or Individual Behaviour Plan (IBP), including negotiating, monitoring and reviewing targets and attending support strategy meetings.

Support individuals or small groups of students withdrawn from lessons.

Someone with the confidence and initiative to lead on key areas of small-group interventions, resource preparation, or extracurricular enrichment.
