About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Head of Software Engineering to lead our software engineering function and help shape the next stage of our technology platform.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for a hands-on technology leader who can combine software engineering expertise, people leadership, technical strategy and delivery management. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders to establish engineering standards, develop high-performing teams and deliver reliable, scalable software.

You’ll have the opportunity to influence technology decisions, improve engineering practices and help build a strong culture of technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and develop software engineering teams across multiple projects and products.
Set and execute the software engineering strategy in line with business objectives.
Provide technical leadership across software architecture, development, testing and deployment.
Establish engineering standards, development practices and quality processes.
Oversee the delivery of secure, scalable and maintainable software solutions.
Work with product, design, operations and business stakeholders to define priorities and delivery plans.
Coach, mentor and support engineering managers, technical leads and software engineers.
Manage engineering resources, budgets, priorities and delivery risks.
Promote Agile, Scrum or other effective software development methodologies.
Champion automation, CI/CD, DevOps and modern engineering practices.
Monitor engineering performance, quality, reliability and delivery outcomes.
Evaluate emerging technologies and make recommendations where they can deliver meaningful business value.
Contribute to long-term technology architecture and platform strategy.

Required Skills and Experience

Significant professional experience in software engineering and technology leadership.
Proven experience leading and developing software engineering teams.
Strong understanding of modern software development practices and engineering principles.
Experience with software architecture, system design and technical decision-making.
Experience delivering complex software projects from planning through production.
Strong knowledge of Agile development and delivery methodologies.
Experience with cloud platforms, DevOps or CI/CD practices.
Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
Ability to balance strategic planning with practical technical decision-making.
Strong focus on software quality, security, scalability and reliability.

Preferred Experience

Experience leading engineering teams within a growing technology organisation.
Experience with AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
Experience with modern web technologies, APIs and distributed systems.
Experience working with automated testing and continuous integration.
Experience managing engineering budgets and resource planning.
Experience building engineering teams, processes and career-development frameworks.
