Full job description

We have a FULL-TIME opportunity for an ACT/Registered Pharmacy Technician looking to practice their career in family-style community pharmacies in Sheffield.

The opportunity is for an ACT to work at our largest Sheffield pharmacy, managing the dispensary, building and supporting the team and developing NHS pharmacy service delivery. We need a motivated and intelligent individual to help drive our pharmacy forward.

The successful applicant will be able to start as soon as possible.

Main duties:

· To carry out final checking of dispensed items according to the accuracy checking Standard Operating Procedures and provide assistance to pharmacy personnel when necessary.

· To supervise all lesser qualified dispensary colleagues and be aware of and clearly understand the role competencies and limitations of an Accuracy Checking Technician.

· To maximise the utility of the role of an Accuracy Checking Technician to the individual pharmacy’s best advantage.

· To ensure that the limitations and standards of the role of an Accuracy Checking Technician are properly adhered to at all times.

· To supervise and perform duties associated with the control and management of all pharmacy systems and prescription dispensing.

· To accept responsibility for the accuracy of monthly NHS prescription submissions, including counting accuracy and accuracy of NHS prescription filing and sorting as per NHSBSA requirements.

· To ensure maximum reimbursement through accurate dispensing, purchasing and endorsing procedures, including any specific instruction from line management.

· To closely supervise the work of Pharmacy Technicians and the dispensary team to ensure they are able to perform their duties efficiently and correctly.

· To maintain and analyse a record/portfolio of errors detected in preparation for re-accreditation every two years.

· To select, label, compound and dispense pharmaceutical products in accordance with a prescription by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and complying with all legal requirements as appropriate when not providing accuracy checking.

· To ensure the safe and correct transfer of dispensed items to patients.

· To identify medicine related problems or queries and bring these to the attention of the pharmacist.

· To answer queries on the supply and availability of medicines, where it is within their competence.

· To accurately maintain Patient Medication Records (PMR) to ensure patient safety and in accordance with data protection requirements.

· To receive stock in accordance with SOPs.

· To ensure the safe and appropriate storage of medicines.

· To manage stock control and the maintenance of reasonable stock levels within the dispensary.

· To respond to telephone and face-to-face queries of a routine pharmaceutical nature from patients or their representatives and to refer queries to the pharmacist when appropriate.

· To liaise with other healthcare professionals to assist in the continuity of patient care across primary and secondary care.

· To assist with service provision to care homes and others including the preparation and checking of Monitored Dosage Systems.

· To assist with the engagement of patients onto advanced services and assist with the provision of those services where appropriate.

· To make simple dilutions or extemporaneous products as determined by the pharmacist.

· To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of pharmaceutical matters by complying with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements.

· To assist in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by carrying out reasonable duties as determined by needs of the business.

· Maintain high retail and dispensary housekeeping standards.

· Ensure high standards of security practice within the pharmacy premises.

· Attend meetings or training events called by line management whether within or outside normal business hours.

· Providing a pastoral resource for colleagues. Helping, motivating and facilitating as appropriate.

· Provide help, advice, support and training to colleagues undergoing dispensary or medicine counter training.

· Undertake any additional duties associated with the conduct of the business when requested by line management.

Personal Qualities:

· Qualified to level 3 NVQ, BTEC or Diploma in pharmacy service skills and pharmaceutical science.

· Qualified as an Accredited Checking Technician

· Registered with GPhC and compliant with standards for pharmacy practice.

· Be qualified to MCA standard.

· Be appropriately experienced, skilled and qualified to undertake the role of General Sales Assistant.

· Be honest, reliable and diligent.

· Committed to CPD and can show evidence of participation.

· Good attention to detail and high levels of concentration.

· Excellent communication and customer service skills.

· Excellent team working skills.

· High level of IT literacy and numeracy.

Experience: Qualified Level 2 Dispensing Assistant or Qualified Healthcare Assistants required.
