Job description

We are a small firm of Chartered Accountants looking for a friendly, professional and organised Receptionist/Administrator to join our team.

This is initially a part-time maternity cover position, working 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 10.00am–2.00pm, for a minimum of 14 months from 1 October 2026. There may be an opportunity for increased hours for the right candidate.

The role is varied, so we are looking for someone who is flexible, well organised and happy to assist wherever needed within a busy office environment.

Key Responsibilities to include any of the following where needed:

Answering and transferring incoming telephone calls
Greeting clients and visitors and providing a professional and welcoming reception service
Typing letters and emails
Monitoring emails and responding or forwarding as appropriate
Filing, archiving, photocopying and dealing with incoming/outgoing post
Liaising with clients and HMRC
Assisting with general office administration
Carrying out other ad hoc duties as required

You will:

Have at least 2 years' previous reception/administration experience, ideally within an accountancy practice or similar professional office
Have an excellent telephone manner and strong communication skills
Be friendly, professional and approachable
Be confident using Microsoft Offic
Be organised, accurate and have excellent attention to detail
Be able to prioritise your workload and manage your time effectively
Be comfortable working independently as well as part of a small team
Understand the importance of confidentiality and GDPR

Role Details

Hours: 20 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 10.00am–2.00pm

Contract: Maternity cover for a minimum of 14 months

Start date: 1 October 2026

Pay: National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage, as applicable

Holiday: 31 days per annum including bank holidays, pro rata

Experience: Minimum 2 years' relevant experience required
