We are looking for a motivated, compassionate and reliable Band 3 Radiology Department Assistant to join our Imaging team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
This is a rotational RDA role supporting the wider Radiology and Imaging service, including Nuclear Medicine. The post holder will work alongside radiographers, technologists, nurses, medical physics staff, radiologists, sonographers, cardiology colleagues and administrative teams to provide safe, high-quality patient care and practical clinical support across imaging pathways.
The role will involve assisting with patient preparation, patient flow, room preparation, stock management, housekeeping, basic clinical support, RIS-related administrative duties and support for a range of imaging procedures. Within Nuclear Medicine, the post holder will support patient care for planar imaging, SPECT/CT, myocardial perfusion imaging stress lists and radionuclide therapy pathways, working strictly within competency, local rules, radiation protection guidance and Trust policy.
The successful candidate will be expected to rotate across imaging areas in line with service need and training, supporting safe and efficient delivery of the Imaging service while upholding the Trust’s PROUD values.
The post holder will provide clinical, practical and administrative support to the Imaging service, including Nuclear Medicine, under the supervision of registered staff.
Key duties will include:
Supporting patients before, during and after imaging procedures, ensuring privacy, dignity, safety and compassionate care at all times.
Assisting with patient identification checks, preparation, positioning, mobility support, changing, toileting and comfort measures.
Preparing imaging rooms, trolleys, equipment and consumables for clinical lists and minor procedures.
Supporting patient flow across the department, including escorting patients, preparing waiting and recovery areas and communicating effectively with patients, carers and staff.
Rotating across Radiology and Imaging modalities as required, supporting the wider service in line with training and competency.
Supporting Nuclear Medicine pathways, including SPECT/CT, planar imaging, myocardial perfusion imaging stress lists and housekeeping.
Undertaking hot lab-related support tasks within Band 3 scope, such as tray preparation, stock handling and consumable preparation, without independently dispensing or administering radiopharmaceuticals, contrast or injectable medicines.
Carrying out contamination monitoring, cleaning, stock replenishment and housekeeping duties in line with radiation protection, infection prevention and local departmental procedures.

The Radiology Department Assistant will work as part of the multidisciplinary Imaging team, supporting safe, effective and patient-centred care across Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.
The post holder will work under the supervision of registered radiographers, technologists, nurses, medical physics staff and other authorised professionals. They will assist with the preparation, care and support of patients attending for diagnostic imaging procedures, including general radiology procedures, minor interventional procedures, Nuclear Medicine imaging, SPECT/CT, myocardial perfusion imaging pathways.
The role requires the post holder to rotate across the Imaging department according to service need and competency. This includes supporting general imaging rooms, assisting with room preparation, preparing clinical trolleys, supporting patient flow, helping with samples from minor procedures where directed, maintaining clean and safe clinical areas and providing practical support to the wider multidisciplinary team.
Within Nuclear Medicine, the post holder will support the preparation and throughput of patients attending for gamma camera imaging, SPECT/CT and myocardial perfusion imaging. Duties may include checking patient identity and appointment details, supporting adherence to local preparation instructions, escorting patients between waiting areas, stress rooms and camera rooms, observing and reassuring patients under supervision and escalating any clinical concerns promptly.
The post holder will also support radionuclide therapy pathways through preparation of rooms and annex facilities, linen and stock preparation, cleaning and housekeeping, contamination monitoring and safe handling of contaminated linen and waste, all in accordance with local rules, infection control procedures and radiation protection guidance.
Hot lab-related support will remain within Band 3 scope and will include preparation of trays and non-radioactive consumables, stock rotation and maintaining clean, tidy and safe storage areas. The post holder will not independently dispense or administer radiopharmaceuticals, IV contrast or other injectable medicines. These duties remain the responsibility of appropriately trained, registered and authorised staff.
The post holder will be required to follow Trust policies, IR(ME)R employer’s procedures, departmental local rules, radiation protection arrangements, infection prevention and control procedures and information governance requirements at all times. They must work within their own competence, seek guidance when unsure and never undertake duties outside their level of training, skill or knowledge.
The role also includes administrative and clerical duties, including use of RIS and other Trust systems to support patient attendance, appointment status updates, basic booking or rescheduling support, documentation handling, telephone enquiries and communication with patients, carers and staff.
