The University Chaplaincy supports the experience of students, staff and others, enhancing University life through the provision of meaningful and beautiful worship, sensitive pastoral care, ecumenical and interfaith encounter, support for international students and more.
This is a new and exciting opportunity within the Chaplaincy team, for a 0.5 FTE Assistant Chaplain, for a two-year period, to support certain core aspects of Chaplaincy work, including leading Christian worship in two medieval chapels, conducting weddings of students, staff and alumni, pastoral care of students and staff regardless of faith or philosophy of life, leading discussion groups for students, and involvement in other engagements across the University. The job has been created to allow the Chaplain to continue working on a 0.6 FTE basis from autumn 2026 for two years.
The post-holder will join an experienced and trusted team, including the Chaplain and two other Assistant Chaplains. This person, who will report to the Chaplain, will strengthen the Chaplaincy's presence across the week and the year, deputising on occasion when the Chaplain is unavailable, eg, when a student or staff member dies.
The successful candidate, a University graduate, will be ordained with experience in preaching and conducting worship, in pastoral care, including of people with mental health problems and/or who are bereaved, will be an effective and supportive listener, maintaining appropriate confidentiality, and will be committed to ecumenical and interfaith engagement. The successful candidate will be able to conduct weddings as an authorised minister of religion.
The expected start date is 17 August 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The expected end date is 16 August 2028.
Before an appointment can be confirmed, the successful candidate will be subject to a PVG check.
