We are a well-established independent opticians on Perth Road, Dundee, looking for a friendly and reliable Optical Assistant / Receptionist to join our small team. This is a varied, hands-on role at the heart of the practice, and would suit someone who enjoys working with the public and takes pride in doing a job well.
Hours: 20 hours per week — 10:00am to 3:00pm, Monday to Friday, with an hour for lunch (hours negotiable) Pay: £12.71 per hour Location: 185A Perth Road, Dundee DD2 1AS
The role
No two days are quite the same. Your duties will include:
- Welcoming patients and providing a warm, professional reception service
- Answering the telephone and handling enquiries with a clear, courteous manner
- Helping customers choose spectacle frames that suit them
- Carrying out minor frame repairs and adjustments
- Handling cash and card payments
- Computer work, including our practice database and accounting software
- Keeping the practice clean, tidy and welcoming
- Glazing spectacles (training can be given)
About you
We're looking for someone who is:
- Cheerful, approachable and genuinely enjoys helping people
- A strong communicator, both in writing and in person
- Confident and professional on the telephone
- Practical and good with their hands, for frame repairs and adjustments
- Comfortable using computers
- Confident and self-sufficient — able to run the front of house on their own when needed
- Reliable, well-organised and happy to turn a hand to whatever the day needs
Previous optical experience is welcome but not essential — full training will be given to the right person. What matters most is the right attitude, a warm manner with patients, and a willingness to learn.
