Purpose of Role
The Building Services Co-ordinator (Electrical) will be responsible for the organisation, control and quality management of electrical building services on Capital and Maintenance projects with specific responsibility for co-ordination of electrical work activities in conjunction with colleagues within in-house service teams, other departmental sections and externally appointed consultant engineers and contractors.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Liaise with external design team members and key internal University stakeholders during the pre-construction design phase, on-site construction and post completion phases of Capital and Small Works projects being carried out on all of the University's Campuses.
- Assist with the delivery of and directly plan, organise and manage delegated budgets and supervise a variety of maintenance type projects. Examples being but not limited to: backlog maintenance, planned preventative maintenance, deferred maintenance, services infrastructure renewal and compliance type projects.
- Provide direct line management supervision and guidance / instruction to the in-house electrical services trades team as and when asked or required.
- Communicate with end user groups and stakeholders to organise, manage and supervise planned interruptions to existing live services including advance preparation of associated sketches, risk assessments and method statements.
- If required and after appropriate training, undertake Authorised Person (AP Electrical) duties in accordance with University of Dundee systems and procedures e.g. LV and HV.
Person Specification
- High level of technical and managerial / supervisory competence to ensure service excellence from subordinates and contractors.
- Possess a sound knowledge, understanding and working experience of statutory legislation and relevant industry codes of practice e.g. HSE / HSG technical guidance documentation relative to engineering and H & S disciplines, Low voltage systems including electrical switching operations and implementing safe isolation procedures.
- Knowledge of health and safety management in the working environment (e.g. permit to work systems, safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.).
- Managing electrical building services associated with capital and minor works new build and refurbishment projects.
- HNC / HND or equivalent in electrical building services engineering and / or recognised building services trade apprenticeship with post qualification in a capacity as Project Engineer / Project Engineering Manager possessing senior Industry experience.
