The Opportunity
We are seeking a commercially minded Financial Controller to take full ownership of the finance function. As the number one in finance, you will play a key role in supporting the Managing Director and leadership team, providing financial insight, strengthening controls, and helping to drive continued growth.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in an SME environment and wants to have real influence over business performance and direction.
Key Responsibilities
- Full ownership of the finance function, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting
- Liaising with and advising company secretary to ensure compliance with accounting and other regulatory requirements.
- Production of monthly management accounts with clear, value-added commentary
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management processes
- Partner with the MD and operational teams to support commercial decision-making
- Monitor project and contract performance, margins, and cost control
- Develop and enhance financial controls, systems, and processes
- Financial oversight of foreign subsidiaries
- Oversee stock, WIP, and costing within a manufacturing environment
- Manage year-end process, statutory accounts, and external audit
- Liaise with external advisors including auditors, tax specialists, and banks
- Oversee and develop 1 member of the finance team
Skills & Experience
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA)
- Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Head of Finance, or Finance Manager role
- Experience within manufacturing, engineering, or project-based environments preferred
- Strong understanding of stock, WIP, and project accounting
- Experience working in an SME environment
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to influence non-financial stakeholders
- Experience in multi-currency reporting, foreign exchange and intercompany accounting
- Comfortable operating both strategically and hands-on
