The Institute of Prion Diseases, part of UCL’s Faculty of Brain Sciences, is a world-leading centre for research into prion diseases and other neurodegenerative conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease. Incorporating the MRC Prion Unit, the Institute combines pioneering laboratory and clinical research to improve understanding, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of these devastating disorders.
Working closely with the National Prion Clinic, the Institute delivers internationally recognised research, specialist clinical expertise, and independent advice to policymakers worldwide. Its multidisciplinary programmes span genetics, molecular biology, immunology, clinical trials, and therapeutic development, supported by extensive national and international collaborations.
Based in the recently refurbished UCL Courtauld Building in central London’s Fitzrovia district, the Institute offers a collaborative, innovative environment for researchers, clinicians, students, and professional staff, with excellent transport links and access to the cultural amenities of one of London’s most vibrant neighbourhoods.
As Executive Assistant to the Director, you will manage a busy and high-profile office, providing comprehensive executive support to an internationally recognised academic and clinical leader. Acting as the first point of contact for the Director's Office, you will be responsible for managing complex and competing priorities, coordinating communications with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring the smooth running of the Director's extensive programme of activities.
This is a varied and intellectually engaging position that requires excellent judgement, discretion and organisational skills. You will work closely with senior colleagues across UCL, the NHS, government bodies, research organisations, funding agencies and international collaborators. The role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to contribute to strategic initiatives, high-profile meetings and events, and the delivery of the Institute's objectives.
The Executive Assistant represents the Director and the University at all times. For this reason, it is important that the Executive Assistant develops an understanding of the Director’s vision, mission and goals and is aware of University and MRC policies.
In addition to coordinating the Director’s numerous activities, the Executive Assistant is expected to organize meetings and functions hosted by the Director.
Excellent communication and organisation skills are therefore essential for this role as well as the ability to work independently and proactively in high pressured environments.
